Campsite Pefkari

We stayed in Pefkari in late August 2010. It was not crowded, and all the facilities were well maintained. It is close to Potos (walking distance) that has nice bakeries and larger shops and cafes, as well as to Limenaria (by car), with a lot of nice restaurants and cafes and a great jewelry shop Macy's. The beach in Pefkari is the coolest feature of this camp, it was nearly empty, with clean and warm water, and sand. Camp is medium size, we had a great spot in shade, but it's 50/50 shade vs. sun ratio on the campsite. It was surprisingly cheap, and we met a couple from Germany that have come to this camp for nearly 30 years in a row. Hot water can sometimes run out in the evening, but not so often.
If you are looking for a nice, peaceful campsite with excellent beach, Pefkari is a good choice.

Probably the worst camping on the island. It was created on the lowest point of its surroundings and therefore in most parts of the camping there is no breeze (not nice on Greek summers with high temperatures). It is not very large and easily overcrowded especially on high season. There are designated pitches but the campers (and the owners) ignore them so you may come from your walk to find a group of people just in front of your spot. I went, admittedly, on the highest season, but the toilets were a nightmare and the showers too. It is in an immediate need for repairs. The common fridges full of rotting and decomposing stuff. The initial washroom with too small sinks and no washing machine is used mainly for dishes. A common barbeque is provided nut you have to wait for your turn some time (or stay there the whole day to get your turn when you are actually hungry). Leider gab es, nach einem Besitzerwechsel vor 2 Jahren, seit 2008 weder ein Restaurant, noch eine Einkaufsmöglichkeit auf dem Platz. Zar gibt es die Möglichkeit in einem Hotel in der Nachbarschaft Brot einzukaufen, aber nur wenn man nicht später als 8:00 Uhr auf den Beinen ist. Die Sanitäranlagen sind, besonders in der HS, oft in einem beklagenswerten Zustand. Schattige Plätze gibt es immer seltener weil die Pflanzen sträflich vernachlässigt werden. Der Strand wird seit 2007 mit billigen Strohschirmen verstellt. Die Bojen, die den Schwimmerbereich vor den Jetskifahrern und Motorbooten schützten sind auch seit 2008 verschwunden. Ebenso die Regelung, das Motorboote nur in bestimmten Bereichen vor Anker gehen durften. Zusatzzelte dürfen (gegen extra Bezahlung) nicht in den vorderen Reihen aufgestellt werden.
Leider gibt es auch den Service der alten Besitzer nicht mehr, dass man vor aufziehenden Gewittern gewarnt wird. Nachts ist der Platz nicht unbewacht.
