1. Download the app
You can download the app from the Apple App Store (for iPhone and iPad) and from Google Play (for devices with an Android operating system). First check if your device is suitable. You can see which operating system version you have in your settings. The app is namely suitable for iPhone 4 (and higher) and iPad 2 (and higher) with iOS 7 (and higher) and smartphones and tablets with Android (version 4 and higher). If you can’t see the app in Google Play or the Apple App Store, your device is unfortunately not suitable for this app.
Try out the ACSI Great Little Campsites app for free with 25 selected campsites in the Dordogne. You can then purchase the details of all (2018) campsites in the app for € 2.99. You will purchase access for one year. You will receive free updates throughout that year.
2. Getting started
Open the app on your device. Starting up may take some time. You will then have access to a map with 25 campsites in the Dordogne. You can purchase the complete information from the menu at ‘Buy & Unlock’.
Press on the country package of your choice. Then log in with your Apple App Store or Google Play account. If you do not already have an account, go to the Apple App Store or Google Play to create one.
You will pay via the Apple App Store or Google Play and not directly to ACSI. This method is tested and safe.
3. Download campsite information
The country packages purchased will now appear in ‘Downloads’. You can download country packages, delete or download them again here. You can also set it to download the information onto an SD card or onto your device.*
It is of course also possible to download multiple packages, remove downloads or download items again. When you have purchased a package you don’t have to pay for it again.
You must be connected to the internet to download the packages. It is advisable to download the information before departure using your own reliable WiFi connection.
When you have the packages you want, press on 'Search for a campsite'.
* Only available from Android 4.4.
4. The map
If you have activated ‘location services’ on your device, the app will recognise your current location. You can see your location by the blue dot on the map. You can find the campsites closest to you on the listing. Use the visor, bottom right, to centre the map on your location.
It is also possible to manually set a location. For example, if your ‘location services’ is turned off or if you would like to find a campsite near a different location. Use the flag for this. Press on it and place it on a map. Then press the tick icon to ‘set it’. You can remove it again by pressing the cross icon.
You can use your fingers to zoom in and out on the map. Press on the tent icon to see information about the campsite. The tent icon will turn blue and you can see the selected campsite on the list.
The list displays the campsites closest to your location. By default, these are sorted by 'recommended'. You can choose to sort them differently; by distance (as the crow flies), by rating or by price.
If you would like detailed campsite information, press on a campsite on the list. You will then see the first campsite on the map, recognisable by the green tent icon. If you press on the campsite again, you will see the detailed information.
There is a magnifying glass displayed at the top of the map. If you press on it, a screen will appear where you can fill in your search term (campsite name, region or place name). You can press one of the listed countries.
If you use a search term, three tabs will appear which you can use to further specify your results; Campsites, Place and Country/Region. Press on a result and it will be displayed on the map.
You can find a campsite with the help of filters which you can use to indicate your preferences. You must first activate the filter by setting the slider to ‘on’. If you press ‘Search’ you return will to the map and see the results of your filters. If you don’t want to use filters, set the slider to ‘off’.
You can see the filters you have set in ‘My Filters’. You can also remove a filter by pressing and holding it. If you want to remove all filters at once, use ‘Delete’. The app will remember the filters you have set, handy for future searches.
Please note: if you activate a filter it also effects the results when doing a ‘free search’.
8. Campsite information
Each campsite has detailed information clearly displayed on its individual page.
You can add a campsite to your favourites by pressing on the heart icon. By pressing the car icon, you will see the address and you can plan your route to the campsite. You can use Google Maps or Apple Maps or your own navigation app. You then temporarily leave the app, but it continues running in the background.
It is possible to visit some campsites’ websites. You can email or call all campsites, if your device allows. Note: you will be sending an email directly to the campsite, and thus not to ACSI. We have no influence on the campsites’ reply.
Under the tab ‘General’, you will find all the general information about the campsite, such as opening periods, altitude and the number of touring pitches. You can also use the tabs to view all the facilities and read reviews left by other campers. It is also possible to add a campsite review yourself. If you don’t have an internet connection the app will store your review and will automatically send it when there is a connection again.
You can use ‘Settings’ to indicate your user preferences for the app. You can set the language, choose miles or kilometres and decide whether you want to use the 'offline' or 'online' maps. When you do not have an internet connection, the offline maps are automatically used.
At the top left of your screen, you will see three horizontal lines, pressing them opens a menu. You can view and delete your favourites, manage your downloads (packages), find concise instructions and explanations and send feedback to us via ‘contact’.
11. Reviewing a campsite
You can leave a campsite review via the app. Go to the campsite that you want to review, and open the tab ‘reviews’. Press the button that reads ‘Review this campsite’, fill in the form and press ‘Send’. You can also do this if you do not have internet access. The app will save your review and automatically send it when you start the app again with an internet connection. You will receive a confirmation e-mail with more information about the review’s placement.
12. Important to know
The ACSI Great Little Campsites app contains over 2000 small campsites. In total ACSI inspects 10,000 campsites. You cannot use this app to filter for campsites that accept CampingCard ACSI.
The campsite information is subject to change. It is recommendable to buy an update. It prevents any unwanted surprises, since a lot can change at a campsite within a year.
If you have any further questions about purchasing or using the app, take a look at Customer Service.
