In our series ‘Long story short’ we highlight a different interesting region with a short article each time. Sanne and Mich\u00e8le’s trip takes them to some of the most beautiful parts of Andalusia. This time they discovered the wonderful El Torcal de Antequera nature reserve.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On the way to the famous Caminito del Rey hiking trail, we discovered that it was closed this Monday. We were expecting company and couldn’t stay another night, so we went in search of something else to do for the day. We found El Torcal de Antequera, a nature reserve between Malaga & Antequera. The area is also known as the Pancake mountain range. There are two different hiking trails at an altitude of 1300 metres, as well as a lookout point to admire the Mediterranean Sea.<\/p>\n

The drive up was tricky as there was lots of fog – and there was even snow at the top! We started walking on the longest route and saw the Spanish Ibex, all sorts of caves and the weirdly shaped mountains, which look like a stack of pancakes. There were even a couple of small snow storms on the way! The route itself was fairly easy, and occasionally we had to do a little climbing. The temperature was quite low – just 1degree above freezing, while that same afternoon we walked around Antequera itself which was 18 degrees!<\/p>\n
