WiFi good. Handy for bus into Pula. Pula well worth a visit. Early in season so many facilities on site were not open, and only 2 toilet blocks for a lot of campers.
Camping Stoja is a large complex that borders a bay. On arrival, visitors are given a map of the site that lists all of the plots and shows the different price-points for each of them. Visitors then have to walk/drive around the site to find a vacant plot that best suits them.
There are some level-ground plots along the edge of the bay, but they were all taken (or reserved). The rest of the plots are on somewhat hilly ground that is full of rocks/stones, making pitching the tent somewhat frustrating as tent pegs invariably hit buried stones.
I selected a pitch well away from the restaurant and coffee bar where late night socialising might take place. Instead, I chose a gently sloping plot near to the little kids playground, thinking it would be quiet at night. Unfortunately, the teenagers played basketball on the adjacent court until late at night. After midnight on my first night, I had to get out of bed and go tell two young men to stop playing basketball as the constant slamming of the ball against the backboard was waking me up!
The wi-fi connection at the site is pitiful. It can be difficult to even browse websites in the evening. In the middle of the afternoon, when everyone else is on the beach, is the best timer to get online with a reasonable speed.
The six showers in the shower block near to my pitch get quickly overwhelmed after 6.00pm, when everybody comes off the beach, resulting in long queues for showers!
I bought chicken and veggies from the camp store to grill for dinner – then discovered that camp rules don’t allow BBQs on individual pitches. In order to grill food, I’d have to walk half-way across the camp to the ‘designated grilling location’.
Any thoughts of extending my stay here quickly evaporated on day one!
While the facilities may be dated they are well maintained and clean and perfect functional, all we ask really. The site though generally feels run down and due to its size (big) doesn't really have much feel.
We've just done a six week European tour and this was probably our least favourite site. We loved Croatia but this site and Pula didn't really float our boat.
Very good campsite, suitable for tents (we had five tents). Toilet facilities are great. It has no proper beach (i.e. no sand) but the rocks are the flat kind on which you can put your towel on. Great place for snorkeling and for jumping off cliffs. Had a great time there...
Also, there's a bus station at the camp's gate which will take you to the town of Pula for a good price. It runs from 5:00 in the morning till late night at 20 minutes interval.
