We visited Le Giessen for 10 nights with a young family and thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Most of the staff at the reception were friendly and helpful. The campsite enjoys a lovely brook for children to play in, and a reasonable adjacent swimming pool complex. The toilet and shower block were OK; no toilet paper provided and on occasions, the showers were not hot enough. However, they were usually reasonably clean and there was no need to queue or wait. Camping pitches were reasonably sized. The whole surrounding area is amazing, including a delightful local town; Ville which I really recommend. On the down side, there was no camp shop, no bakery (which was advertised), and the snack menu was limited only to chips, pizza and chicken nuggets, which was disappointing.
We stayed 3 nights. Late arrival was arranged even office closed. We arrived at St. Jean days (midsummer) and called beforehand whether shops etc. are open. We were told yes. This was right except in swimming hall there were contest, so it was closed from pub. swimmers.
Early leavings before office hours are not possible!! They may complain about dirtiness left out by staff or previous owner. Our dishes were unclean on arrival. So be ready to tolerate this when choosing this nice location. Washing machine & dryer use internal coins, but it was not told in coin automates.
We chose this camp-site because of its position. It is easy to cycle on the cycle/walk path into Villé, a lovely small town and we used the restaurant at Bassemberg where we were treated very well. The staff at the site are very friendly and helpful. The toilet facilities are OK and the block is nicely heated. the taps are a little peculiar as many of them are switched with hot coming out of cold and cold out of hot. One shower only produced cold water. Our pitch was fine, but we should have been careful to choose one away from the road. We enjoyed our stay as there are excellent walks in the area and places to visit.
