Camping L'Orée du Bois is located on the French peninsula Médoc. You'll camp on a sheltered campsite, four kilometres from the Lac d'Hourtin-Carcans, a large lake with a beautiful sandy beach. On the campsite you can also swim when it rains; the swimming pool has a sliding roof. In the summer months there are jeu-de-boules tournaments, dance evenings and archery workshops.

At the edge of the forest
The small-scale campsite L'Orée du Bois is situated - how could it be otherwise - on the edge of a forest, directly on the road to the village of Hourtin. There are 35 touring pitches. Trees and shrubs delimitate the pitches, giving you both shade and privacy on your pitch. There are also 26 rental accommodations: mobile homes, chalets and comfortable lodge tents.
Market in Hourtin
For a sumptuous meal, the assortment in the small campsite shop is not large enough. This is not a problem, because there is a supermarket half a kilometre from the campsite. Besides, it's certainly not a punishment to go into Hourtin for groceries. Follow the D3 and you'll be cycling to the centre in five minutes. Every Thursday, and in July and August every Tuesday and Saturday, there's a market here.
Swimming and surfing
The Lac d'Hourtin-Carcans, the largest freshwater lake in France, is just four kilometres away. For a day at the beach you can also go to the Atlantic Ocean. This is another ten kilometers away. Surfers are prepared to go the distance, because the waves on this part of the French west coast are real challenges.
