Unlike others here, we chanced on this site 3 yrs ago [Aug '14] and LOVED the relaxed feel, revisiting 'on the way back' and in Aug '15. V dog-friendly, bijou pool, good wildlife area to explore, smashing restaurant, well-kept loos, and FRIENDLY easy-going owners. Shut in '16 but we'll be back in '17!
Would like to have put staff down as -1. Very arrogant and rude would not return unless there was a change of management.
We had actually heard good things about this site and so took a bit of a diversion to stay there. The site is ok but it would be hard to be a lot more positive. Pitches are hard standing with water and electric on pitch which is great. However the facilities were in real need of having some money spent on them with cracked tiles etc (though the water was hot) - they certainly seem rather dated compared to many we have visited. The "welcome" cannot be really called that, however we understand the owners were away so maybe that has something to do with it. Duras itself is pleasant but would not make us stay for long unless you ranged fairly widely from it. The star here is the restaurant, good food, great service.
In complete agreement with 'archie and red'.
What was always an enjoyable visit now ruined by the obsessive, control freakish and rude attitude of the new managers. When I pointed out that their attitude was not suited to running a campsite and that we would not return we were ordered off the site immediately.
I asked to speak to the owners, who we have found to be most pleasant and approachable on our previous visits, but the 'managers' refused to give me their number.
To be clear when the owners are on site and you are able to deal with them directly the atmosphere is fine, once their back is turned the atmosphere is unpleasant.
We have stayed at this campsite on many occasions to enjoy the surrounding Bastide towns but will not be returning unless the owner replaces the very arrogant and rude managers. We were made to feel unwelcome as was a Dutch couple who left the following morning after only one night. It is a great pity the present managers seem to want no customers to use this site. They seem to go out of there way to make you feel intimidated and unwelcome. Would like to have awarded less than a 1 for staff but could not do this.
Great all year camp site within walking distance of Duras. Plenty of open space and a great restaurant attached. Offers some good long stay deals.
The site has had a recent staff change and what was a very laid back easy going site with a great atmosphere has changed for the worse with a focus on "rules", with the staff keeping a close watch on you! Most uncomfortable, we were to stay for six nights but left after one. The staff said that funnily enough they have had a lot of people leave after one day of late!
This camping is one of the better kept secrets of France. Great management, friendly and sparing no effort to make your stay a success. The camping is small and very quiet, clean, with plenty of books one may want to borrow for a good read in the shadow of the poplars, with a nice view on meadows and hills, while children enjoy themselves in the swimming pool. The surrounding landscape is the Lot et Garonne, rightly described by Stendhal as "the Tuscany of France."
Stayed 3 nights on the way south then returned for a further 3. Restaurant is top class as is the service. Site very dog friendly easy walk into Duras a really quaint old town with a good market. Facilities are some of the best we have seen. We will go back.
