Le Pavillon Royal five-star campsite is on the Atlantic Ocean coast, between a golf course and a pine forest. This campsite has pitches with a view of the sea, and is ideal for surfers. Take a trip to Biarritz, Bidart and towards Spain, treat yourself in the massage salon at the campsite, or dive into the water. The pine trees welcome you when you drive on to the campsite. You'll be able to see the ocean through the branches. Rows of trees have been planted on the camping grounds, which provide the necessary shade - the closer you get to the water, the sunnier the pitches are.
The pitches at the campsite are spacious and separated by hedges. There's always a water connection and an electricity point nearby. If you're right at the back of the campsite, you're in luck: you'll have a view of the endless ocean, and be just a few steps from the beach. If you want more space, you can rent one of the various chalets and apartments.
Swimming and surfing paradise
Le Pavillon Royal Campsite is perfect if you're a water lover. With a swimming pool and its location on the Atlantic Ocean, swimmers, water sports enthusiasts, and beach lovers are all bound to enjoy themselves. The beach is ideal for children: the sea is shallow for some distance, and in the peak season there are lifeguards present. The high waves ensure that the beach is a surfer's paradise: probably one of the best surfing beaches on the Basque coast. Near the campsite you'll find a surfing school where you can rent boards and other equipment.

This site deserves its high reputation, but my own visit was spoiled by a few niggles. Having reserved a pitch in advance, I was allocated one that was much smaller than the average; that wasn't a problem for me, as a single camper with tent and car, but it had two other disadvantages -- there was no shade, and it was directly opposite one of the toilet blocks, which meant that it was noisy both late at night and early in the morning when the cleaners arrived. The management obviously put a lot of effort into keeping the sanitary blocks clean, but it seems that by late afternoon it's impossible to find a shower cubicle without sand on the floor. Contrary to another recent review, the restaurant was serving a full menu while I was there, and was very popular.
This is the second consecutive year we have stayed at this site. I believe it now has new owners since last year. The best thing going for this site is its sea front location. The reception staff are helpful and polite. We arrived there on 8 June and the site was quite busy but lots of short stay campers. There has been some refurbishment of the bar area and restaurant but neither were well patronised during our stay. The choices are basically pizza or mouses!! Quite expensive for the limited choice too. The on site shop has most things on sale although this too is expensive. Toilet and shower blocks adequate but clean. Entertainment during our stay - non! There are buses to St Jean de Luz and Biarritz on the main road just round the corner from the campsite.
This was an excellent site, in a beautiful location. It was very busy, but our pitch overlooked the sea - it was superb! There were a lot of surfers due to the high waves. The restaurant was good. and the shop excellent. Buses stopped near to the site for Biarritz. Will certainly go again.
This site is worth a review and not sure why there are not many reviews Friendly staff large pitches many overlook the sea on a tiered level. Clean shower facilities
There a about 8 frontline pitches that have a panoramic view of the beach. Beach is wide and sandy. Large swimming pool with nice loungers.
The site is expensive in high season but in September it is reasonable. The site is between Bidart and Biarritz with a bus stop just outside to both.
Would highly recommend this lovely site.
