The castle campgound of Château La Grange Fort is in a lovely location on a river in a forest in a green, rolling area where you can also find many old volcanoes. The castle grounds are called "the little Versailles of the Auvergne".
The campground is located at an elevation of 400 m. The spacious campsites stretch out over a rolling landscape. You have different views everywhere. You can get a spot next to the castle or along the forest, but also on the side of a hill. There are spaces with, without and with some shade.
There are mobile homes and tents for hire on site. There are various luxury chalets in the forest. You can also spend the night in a real castle room! On Wednesday and Sunday, for a small fee, you can visit the 15th century castle with a tour. The restaurant with a small menu is located in the courtyard of the castle.
Natural stone swimming pool
The swimming pool next to the castle is completely made of natural stone. There is an outdoor pool and a small heated indoor pool. You can enjoy the jacuzzis and the slide. There is also a sauna. From the campground there is a walking path to the river de Allier where you can swim. You can hire canoes, kayaks and mountain bikes at the reception.
There is a playground and a sports field on site. You can play table tennis and use the jeu-de-boules pitch. You can play tennis, go horseback riding, ride ponies and practice archery for a fee. There is an activities programme in Dutch for the kids. For children from about ten and for adults, the via ferrata is a climbing adventure.

Visited this campsite in June
Cannot understand why it was open to public
Workmen everywhere, cars blocking exit
Reception told us there was a bistro
Outside bottles everywhere rub bluish
No shower available in morning.
Total disrespect for clients
under health and safety I cannot understand
how this is open
Broken window in pool area
A convenient stop we use here quite often in June and Sept. It is true to say that facilities are limited in these times but the access to the A75, the views and the peacefull surroundings are good. Sadly the remoteness and convenient access to the A75 were probably factors in the multiple van burglaries which occurred in May 2016 when much property was stolen
I can only think this campsite is still in business because of the misleading photos and its location as a stopover site. It was one of the worst campsites we stayed on and one of the most expensive. We were there two days before the indoor swimming pool and restaurant opened so can\'t comment on them but I hope the Alsatian is put away. The toilets in the old building were being dug up and the toilet block further down the site was appalling. Very quiet so long single track access road was fine but I wouldn\'t like to meet another vehicle on it if I had a large unit. Reception didn\'t open, notice said to ask at the chateau but this wasn\'t obvious. Didn\'t find drain for Motorhome nor anyone to ask in the morning. View was the only good thing!
A nice spot to stop for a couple of days to or from the south nice veiws. Some of the pitches are very difficult to get onto as the access roads are quite narrow. Our caravan mover broke and we had to get help from the owner as are large twinn made it very tight. toilet facilities not that good most closed and the water was only warm. however the bar / restaurant was good food and value. We did stop on the way back also and stayed on the pitches in front of the castle which was better.
A disgusting site - uncared for and very tatty. We were there in September. Every toilet block but one was closed and the one unisex open had 5 out of the 6 toilets locked leaving only one for a site with 20 - 30 vans on site. The owners simply don\'t care and the bad tempered old woman who mismanaged the bread orders in the morning had to be experienced to be believed.
We stayed here overnight at the beginning of July, we had a lovely welcome and a lovely quiet pitch with beautiful views over the valley, the washroom facility\'s & showers were pretty small but clean, a lovely outdoor swimming pool right by the fort, the only reason we would not stay again ( and this is not the owners fault at all) is that there were so many flies & insects that we couldn\'t sit outside or have our motorhome door open.
We spent 9 days here, beautiful views, friendly, helpful staff and great facilities. We will definitely visit again
We were on our way to the South of France/Italy and originally we were just going to stay the night but it’s an interesting place with nice walks along the river and the staff are very friendly and helpful, we ate in the restaurant/bar which is a must see (converted stable block) on our last night and the food was very nice and not expensive, nice beers and wine at very reasonable prices, we would recommend this site it has a lot of interesting architecture and is very peaceful although minutes from the main auto route and with easy access for our 6mtr motor home.
