In the northeastern part of France, just south of the Belgian border, lies the Champagne-Ardenne region. Are you looking to combine camping among the vineyards with a pitch at a very large lake? In that case, set up your caravan at Camping Lac d'Orient. This campsite is located directly on the lake of the same name. The water is surrounded by a gorgeous forested nature area.

Spacious pitches among the trees

Campers who arrive outside the peak season at Camping Le Lac d'Orient can often take their pick from the beautiful and spaciously laid-out pitches. The pitches are located on the playfully landscaped camping grounds. Some fields are long and narrow, whilst others are small and square or rectangular. The rental accommodations are located on a separate part of the campsite.

Facilities and entertainment

The reception, the small campsite shop, the laundry and the indoor swimming pool are located in a modern U-shaped building. Right behind this building, you will find the outdoor swimming pool and the restaurant which serves snacks.

An outdoor swimming pool, an indoor swimming pool and a lake; what more could a water enthusiast wish for? To reach that lake and its fine sandy beach, you only need to leave the campsite and cross the street. Before you know it, you'll be standing with your feet in the sand at the water's edge.

Entertainment in July and August

There is entertainment for all ages in the peak season. The entertainment team organises all sorts of sports activities, as well as dance parties and concerts. You can play a game of volleyball or basketball yourself on the enclosed sports field. Other fun tips: challenge your fellow campers to a game of petanque or work up a sweat on the outdoor fitness equipment.

Travelling party: Couple

This Campsite is listed as 4*, however we feel it only warrants 3 at best. The Facilities block while clean had many cubicles locked in the latter part of July. This site was FULL with many families which is great but the facilities MUST be geared up to cater for the volume. Additionally there was only hot water very early in the morning. The rest of the day and evening it was cold. It couldn\'t even be described as tepid. We attended the bar on our first evening. Notices said to order at the bar but the entrance to the bar/restaurant was barred and there was no sign of any staff. We waited 10 minutes then went back to our van unimpressed. We would have been happy to wait had there been signs of anyone who cared. There were others either already drinking or prepared to wait. Overall we were only booked in 2 nights and were more than happy to leave.

Travelling party: Family with children, 12 - 18 years

Stayed at this site several times now, not least because it is perfectly distanced for the run to or from Calais.
The pitches are big with good water, drainage and EHU. Toilets are very clean. The pool is very good and the bar staff are great.

My suggestion to the owners would be to expand the restaurant menu somewhat. France is famed for its cuisine, yet the restaurant just offered standard tourist fare.

Travelling party: Couple

We originally planned to stay just one night as a stopover on our journey south but decided to stay an extra night based on the lovely welcome and helpfulness of staff at reception and in the restaurant. My husband has various food intolerances and the staff in the restaurant went out of their way to accommodate him.

It was a lovely area to explore around the lake. Troyes was well worth a visit too with its lovely timber buildings.

Overall we would use this site again as a stopover
