As seniors we visited this site in May 2018.Unforetunatly it did not live up to the four star grading given by the ACSI inspector. Upon arrival our welcome was less than friendly. The main toilet block was closed down and the new one appease to be similar to a Porta- cabin. The pitches were \"well warn\".and our electric \"cut-out on the first and only night stop.We had intended to stay for seven days but left after one. This site could be better and needs regarding.
My wife & I visited this site on Tues 15th May 2018. The owner at the reception was not a vey welcoming person. The main toilet block was closed and had black plastic bags tied around the toilets. The other newer toilet block was like a porta -cabin!. The pitches were well used and how this site managed to get a five star rating is beyond us...Prior to arriving here , we had stayed on a site in the Loire and one in Pornic, BOTH WELL DESERVED 5 STAR RATINGS.But this site did not compare.Clearly different inspectors have different standards. We left after a one night stay.
Chose to stay at this campsite due to its advertised close proximity to Omaha Beach. While it may only be 700m from the beach that is to the top of a cliff. The actual access to the beach and the American Cemetary is 2 1/2 miles away down and back up a very steep road. We couldn\'t cycle up and had to get off and push. Toilet and washing facilities were basic at best with only lukewarm water to shower and wash dishes with. The temperature control on the hottest setting was still only tepid. Can\'t comment on how good it is as we didn\'t bother at that price. Meant to stay for 2 nights but left after 1 as we didn\'t fancy another cold shower.
Good size pitches, unfortunately they had had a lot of rain and this made the pitches very soft at the start of the season and we actually got stuck on pitch, if weather was good we would rate them good pitches. Sanitary facilities were basic and were an all in one style porta cabin that had been bought, bit smelly and showers not great but served a purpose. Great place to base yourself for the ww2 memorials and museums. It\'s on the 154 so we found you could here some road noise on the pitches near reception.
Didn\'t honour ACSI prices even though shown in book. Charged a booking fee as well. Sewer needed attention whilst there and tried to put a caravan on the pitch despite the sewer pipe being open (the owners refused the pitch). Very busy due to D day and overspill field used which overstretched the facilities.
Although only staying 1 night we were made very welcome. The pitches and site are very well maintained; showers and toilets spotless. Anyone intrested in WW-II history the site is ideal for Omah beech and Point de hoc. Hope to visit again for a longer stay this time.
Very helpful, friendly staff, clean sanitary block, very quiet and peaceful site. The location, about 1km from Omaha beach, the site of the US 1st Army (Big Red One) landings is redolent of history, with Pointe de Hoc about 7km to the west where the US Rangers scaled the cliffs to knock out the German gun batteries is a must see. I highly recommend this site for a super holiday!
a very lucky find drove past lots of sites to get here very friendly owners making an effort to understand my english and friendly towards my disabled son site including toilets very wheelchair friendly
We arrived on 1st June just as Jeeps were being unloaded outside the site, in preparation for the D-Day celebrations. We expected not to be able to stay but there were still some pitches left, and we were made very welcome. This is a lovely site about 400 metres from the beach, which is reached by a footpath across fields. It was busy without being 'loud'. There's a small bar, and fresh bread/croissants every morning. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the old vehicles and their owners dressed in their uniforms - so much so, we intend going back next year to stay for longer and soak up the atmosphere. A lucky discovery!
