Camping La Bien-Assise issituated close to the centre of Guînes, a village not far from Calais. The castle camping site is therefore popular with British tourists for whom this is the first (or last) stopover in France. The camping site is located in an attractive, rather flat, rural area. The grounds are dominated by large trees and look very attractive. The rural setting will give you an immediate French holiday feeling, while the coast of the English Channel is not far away.
Camping site and sanitary facilities
There are 46 mobile homes on the camping site which are fitted with all amenities. There are also four wooden, fully furnished rental holiday cottages. Other camping guests have access to good and modern sanitary facilities in the service building.
Because camping La Bien-Assise is not directly situated on the sea, a lake or river, it has a covered swimming pool with large water slide. However, at a distance of only 16 km, you will find Escalles and Cap Blanc-Nez, where you can spend the day on the beach. Wimereux and Sangatte are located at similar distances.
On the grounds you will also find the three-star hotel L’auberge du Colombier, located in a small 19th century castle, as well as the restaurant La Ferme Gourmande. The restaurant serves classic French dishes, also on the terrace when the weather allows it. From here you have a view of the castle's dovecote. There is a cosy bar near the reception (with a small library).
As is the case at most camping sites, camping La Bien-Assise also has its own small shop. Are you looking for a larger assortment? In Guînes itself there is a variety of supermarkets and typical French shops.

We have stayed here many times on both our way out and back from holiday. It is very convenient for both the A26 and A16. Facilities are good, but the price is high outside of the dates when the ACSI card can be used. It was a shame the cafe was shut when we arrived in late September, but overall this is a good site and we will use it in the future.
Couple in motorhome, regular visitors, second time this year, been coming here nearly 10 years, always stay here to visit the vets and to do last minute shopping. Having spent a month touring Europe, yet again we return to La Bien Assise and agree it continues to be one of the nicest sites we have stayed on. A pleasure to walk around. Large grass pitches, overlooking countryside. However I have the same 2 moans each time we stay. The outdated sanitary block (2 star at best, could only get a cold shower today, no soap in the dispenser), and the expensive wi-fi if you are on a short stay (why can't you log on and off? Other sites do). Shop, bar and takeaway closed 2 weeks before site closes but is still very busy. More importantly is a sign in the office, 'ACSI Card will NOT be accepted from 2016.' I feel our love affair is coming to an end.
Slight slope to all pitches and being grassy, easily churned up when wet. Wifi coverage iffy. Staff could have been a bit more helpful on that issue. Nice transit site but longer.......no.
beautiful site just out of the lovely friendly village of guines .close to ports/tunnel..bus stop out side camp only €1 pp to calais 30 min trip so you can leave the car bind..spacious pitches mostly level..We have used this site for 3 years for a week in summer most use it as a stop over into france or out..would love to stay longer but it's expensive, it's the only thing that lets the site Down. toilets very clean we were there this year & there had been a lot of rain so very muddy but the toilets were kept clean ..very friendly staff with good English well worth the visit
Very good site, with large level pitches, excellent facilities and friendly helpful staff. We needed a new jockey wheel, and the receptionist drew us a map to find the caravan shop in Calais. Ideal for start or finish of a trip, but doesn't feel like a `transit' camp. Decent shops nearby.
We used this site as a stop over, using the vets in Ardres before travelling home on the eurotunnel the next day. For this it was very convenient. It has people moving on and off it all the time clearly doing the same thing. The facilities are good and the showers clean but it has a 'stopover' feeling to it. It is set in nice grounds which are well kept. It is grass pitches and in the main level although some were slightly sloping and some motorhomes were on level chocks. There is a swimming pool but we didn't use this. Appears to be kid friendly. We used the vets in Ardres and this site was excellent location for this - just 5 minutes down the road. These vets were also excellent, we booked them before we left the UK but other English people in the vets were also staying at this site and the site had rung and booked them into the Vets.
Used as stop over point to and from ferry, one night stay only, easy access from Calais. Star very helpful and friendly. Showers and toilets clean and plenty of hot water. Drinks in the snack bar very expensive !
We stayed here for a night on the way out in early May and two nights on the way back in late May.
The reception staff were really friendly and helpful. The site was very quiet on the first visit but much busier on the second visit. The toilet blocks were shared (male / female) but were kept clean. The appearance of the site is very pleasant and it was only about 20 minutes from the ferry. Lots of people seem to use it for overnight stays. The pitches we were given were grass and level. There is a charge for wifi. There are some statics and 'permanent' tents, but not overly intrusive. We would go here again.
the staff were great, the food in the restaurant was fantastic. Pitches were a good size & everywhere was spotless. Will always use this site.
Reception excellent, could even choose our own pitch. Last night of the season and it was very busy. The site restaraunt I thought was cold value for an evening meal of 3 courses from the base set menu at just under 20 euros per person, and I have to say our meals were of excellent quality. Some of the facilities may need an update, but they were far from the worst we encountered. Its so close to both the main ports and tunnel, that I dont think I would use it for other than an overnight stop.
