Estate campsite

The camping fields are located around the castle and the historical outbuildings. The history of Chanteloup, originally a small stately home, dates back to 1400, but the main buildings are from the fifteenth and nineteenth centuries. The swimming pool is nicely blended into the landscape and is surrounded by lawns and greenery.

A sense of calmness prevails at the swimming pool. Not far from the swimming pool you will find playground equipment for children, such as a trampoline, bouncer and swings.

Historical guest quarters

Château de Chanteloup has five guest quarters established in the old buildings. They are furnished with antique or rural family heirlooms, yet equipped with modern comforts like television and dishwasher. Almost all quarters have a private garden with garden furniture, loungers and a barbecue. In addition, there are glamping tents which have also been partly fitted out in authentic style. Children will be delighted with their own small tent next to the large tent with all conveniences.

Plenty to do

The campsite also offers amenities for sports and games. There are soccer and volley ball fields and a fitness area. Activities such as sports tournaments, games and building huts, are organised on a regular basis. In high season there is a mini club for children aged 4 to 10. Activities such as canoeing, paintballing or tree climbing are available in the immediate vicinity. Car racing fans can go to the racing circuit of the 24 hours of Le Mans.

"Beautiful, quiet campsite surrounding a 19th century castle (1815) with large domain. Near Le Mans. Both small and bigger children can have a wonderful time here."

Liked - Beautiful old chateau in lovely spacious grounds
Under new ownership since we last visited in 2019, having been most years since 1998

Disliked - Maintenance of the grounds has slipped, areas unkempt Motorhome waste area and recycling overgrown and in need of weeding.
Toilets good, but not as clean as they used to be, bird dropping on floor in toilets not mopped over the 2 days we were there.
Owners “lively dogs” allowed to run free and attacked any other dogs they came across, fortunately ours was in her cage, but could he another dog being attacked across the field.
Restaurant used to be excellent, however now sublet to others and was so badly run, we sat for 20 minutes without drinks or order being taken, so left without.

Liked - Car competition and party all very well organised.
Disliked - Allocated a terrible pitch to try and get on with a caravan, which you were aware of with booking, due to busy event weekend why not put us somewhere that didn’t require cars to be asked to move in order for us to even get in the pitch. Stressful start to our stay. You advertised a buffet dinner but on arrival nothing was mentioned and we never found out what/when that was !

Liked - Back for the 8th time after the enforced COVID hiatus and it’s just like we all remembered. Large pitches on open fields that allow kids and adults to play, with just enough distance between pitches to keep your stay private. Atmosphere was somewhat flatter but the change in ownership was hardly noticed. Relaxing, friendly, enjoyable and above all a very pleasant stay at our favourite French Campsite. Pool was sometimes crowded and unruly and could do with more frequent clean but still ok to use. Restaurant and shop has so much potential but not at the same standard as rest of site.
Disliked - The overall cleanliness could be improved and the lower toilet and shower block was inadequate and not up to standard. I’m sure more people would use the bar if the prices were anyway reasonable and the shop was not really what you could call a shop….sort of half finished. The restaurant was not in any way good. staff when not outside, constantly sent us back for the “right change” and were rude. Food was not great other than chips- so much potential on the campsite if this was tweaked.

Liked - Spacious pitch provided for our twin-axle caravan as requested for our overnight stay, heading north. Impressive Chateau, with camping outfits dotted around the various gardens. Restaurant meal was very pleasant. Understandably quiet despite high season but a bit disappointed we were placed in the overnight stay area which (being the only outfit in this area) made us feel a bit excluded from the other campers. However, the pitch was flat, spacious, with numerous well-placed electric points and a convenient, nicely appointed modern sanitary block.
Disliked - Being allocated a pitch in the overnight stay when (due to Covid restrictions) the site was barely a third full in high season (August) and being the only outfit made us feel a bit excluded from the mother campers. Also, there is no security evident in this area, which is close to the main entrance (no operational gates) and therefore quite concerning, although the site is in a fairly remote part of the countryside so perhaps the risks to date have been low.

Liked - Fresh Bread delivery in morning
Disliked - Isolated pitches in woods, facilities by main house so a trek through woods for toilets and showers
Pitch was covered in ants. Planned to stay 3 nights but left after 1 night

Liked - Pitch close to the Chateau was lovely but I would not have wanted to be in the woods. People friendly. Very quiet where you can rest but a little boring after a while.
Disliked - We arrived week before LeMans and it was not ready to receive people. The restaurant was more cafe with higher prices and didn’t know how to uncork a bottle as team were not trained no shop to get basic stuff which when in a MH is a nice to have after setting up as nothing close by either. There was a load of effort in the last few days pre leman which made it annoying as we paid the same should. but we’re clearly lees important in regards details.. You also have to pay for Wi-Fi which should be included as it is not a cheap place to stay. Left a day early overall expectations not achieved

Liked - The location and general ambiance of the site made it a very relaxing place to stay. The setting around the château and lake made it idyllic. Only an overnight on this occasion but we shall most certainly return for a longer stay.
Disliked - The restaurant on our stay was not what we would have expected for a site of this standard.
