In the southern Vendée, some 60 km from Les Sables d’Olonne and from La Rochelle, lies the lively coastal town La Faute-sur-Mer. There is a wide range of lovely restaurants and shops here. In green surroundings close to this town you will find camping Le Grand R. The sea is only 500 m away from the camping site.
Camping with privacy and shade
Le Grand R is a medium-sized camping site with a beautiful swimming pool and approximately the same number of touring pitches and mobile homes. The terrain looks very well-maintained. The touring pitches are clearly demarcated and spacious enough for a car and caravan with awning. Also nice: the pitches are level and have a grass surface. They are situated among the trees so you have the option of a spot with or without shade.
The camping site does not have a shop (although bread is available each morning) or a restaurant. However, there is a wide choice of shops and restaurants in the village for those days when you don't feel like cooking.
There is a heated (can be covered) outdoor pool with a separate toddler pool and slide. It is in full sun, with sufficient poolside space to sunbathe in sturdy beach loungers and under sun umbrellas. The beach of the Atlantic Ocean can be reached by crossing the D47 road from the camping site and via a 500 m walk on a paved path.
Entertainment for children and teenagers is offered twice a week as well as twice weekly water aerobics in the swimming pool. On Mondays and Fridays, you will naturally join the pétanque tournaments and there are themed evenings with dancing and karaoke.

Booked this via the ACSI APP when we arrived they tried to charge us again which we sorted with reception. Asked about ACSI discount and was told that we should have told them it was ACSI at time of booking so therefore had to pay full price. To my knowledge this cannot be done at the time of booking and previous campsites have given us a reduction when we arrived. It’s a nice campsite close to the beach however it looks like the beach is closed for building works. Make sure you bring your own loo roll as this is not supplied and yes it’s the famous no toilet seats again. No soap provided to wash your hands which seems to be quite normal on French campsites. Also you cannot connect a hosepipe if you need to fill up with water which wasn’t a problem for us. If you want to empty your cassette toilet this has to be done in a squatting toilet. At the back of the campsite is a gate which takes you to a nice river walk into the town which is about 20 minutes walk. Pitches are on the small size so if your in a big camper you may struggle. Lots of mobile homes at the front of the site with pitches for camping towards the back of the site.
Clean, friendly campsite. Decent sized pitches, Toilets and good showers. Nice pool area. Bar with terrace on site but as it was near the end of season, stocks were low. Communal BBQ\'s available. Nice walk along coastal path to town.
Liked - Well maintained spacious pitches. Lovely area, easy to get around by cycle. Friendly, helpful reception staff. We had a great time!
Disliked - Group of children who arrived at the end of our stay were noisy late in the evening, running to and from the toilet block, shouting and banging on doors - we don't mind during the day, but preferable not at night!
