Camping Les Baleines is beautifully situated in a nature reserve with conifers. The camping site is located in the north-west of the Ile de Ré. A 100 m walk will take you to the Atlantic Ocean and the rugged shore. From the friendly terraced camping site you have a splendid view over the bay and Le Phare des Baleines lighthouse. The convivial, busy camping site has a beautiful swimming pool.
Camping with Ecolabel
Friendly staff members will welcome you at the reception. The touring pitches are separated from the mobile homes. The level camping pitches with a sand surface are not demarcated and are to be found between conifers.
The camping site is proud to have been awarded an EU Ecolabel. They also motivate camping guests to use water and electricity sparingly. The camping shop stocks a range of locally produced groceries, such as jam, butter, coffee, milk and orange juice.
Crabbing between rocks
From the camping site you can follow a sandy path through the forest and over a small dune, to get to the beautiful sandy beach. Parents with strollers can take the Pas de Bœufs. At low tide you will find crabs in the small pools between the rocks. Great excitement for children! There is a playground on the camping site. Children who understand some English (or French) can join the entertainment programme.
Wide choice of sports
The vicinity of the camping site is eminently suitable for various sports. For instance, you can participate in kitesurfing, wind surfing, waterskiing and sailing. On the camping site there is a field for beach volleyball and at the riding school you can do horseback or pony riding.

Wij komen hier al jaren en genieten steeds weer van deze prachtige plaats. Camping ligt ideaal om te voet of per fiets de omgeving te bekijken. Zeer schoon sanitair.
A lovely peaceful site with very new and spotlessly clean toilet facilities. Such kind and friendly staff who take pride in their site and go out of their way to be helpful. Pitches are a good size but very sandy so a groundsheet is useful. We hired bikes from the site and had great fun touring the local area. Easy walking/cycling to local restaurants and lovely beaches. The Ile de Re is well worth a visit and we would definitely recommend this campsite.
We\'ve been motorhoming for over two years now and have never spent more than 5 days in any one place until Les Baleines...9 nights..we just didn\'t want to leave. So peaceful, brilliant cycle rides through the marshes and the local villages, really friendly staff, clean toilets, big pitches...and right beside the beach.
Couple in motorhome with dog. First time at this idyllic location. 1 minute walk to lovely beach, 5 minutes to the restaurants at the Phare. Bus stop (5 mins walk) to anywhere on the island. The site is sandy and care needs to be taken on some pitches to avoid getting stuck. Facilities are modern though limited out of season. Friendly helpful staff. Bread every morning also pizzas in the evening. Didn't want to leave. Will definitly return. Clearly there have been dramatic improvements since the last (English) review in 2011.
This evaluation has been obtained by our inspector from a questionnaire at the camp site.
This campsite is not in the best location as it is far away from the main attractions - maybe this will suit some. There was quite a strong smell in the air caused by the exposed seaweed on the nearby beach, not the fault of the campsite, but not too pleasant either. The surroundings may suit some though, but the site is not in the league of others that charge the same amount. It does not look or feel very well looked after and we used the shower in our own van in preference to site facilities. The owners are friendly and helpful, but all in all this is not a high quality site. The offer of free internet brought us here but was not enough of an incentive to stay. Toilets were shared with urinals in plain view. Toilets are of the kind you would expect in the UK and reasonably clean. We did not use many other facilities as we did not wish to stay. It was very quiet and there was no pressure to leave early on departure day, which was helpful.
