Campsite Val de Boutonne ***

General information

The busy campground Val de Boutonne is within walking distance from the town of St. Jean d'Angély. The campground is well maintained and is in a quiet environment in a lovely park by a river and very near a recreation lake. The campsites are between 80 and 100 m2 and are lined up on streets in the shade of deciduous trees. You have the choice of separate or open sites. There are many passers-through who sometimes stay longer than planned because of the beautiful location.

Swimming and shopping

There is a small swimming pool (12 by 7 metres) and a kiddie pool where the guests can sun themselves on the lawn. The lifeguard monitors safety and makes sure that the French hygiene rules are followed. The most popular groceries are available on the campsite. You can order bread for the following morning.

Sporty

The managers rent bikes, mountain bikes, canoes, kayaks, water bikes and row boats. So you can enjoy the lake and the surrounding area. The campsite is located on a cycling route. The lake is popular for anglers and canoers. We recommend having a drink at the restaurant on the lake to watch the sun go down. There are regular fireworks shows and wine tastings.

Beautiful starting point

The campground is near the historic town of St. Jean d'Angély, 3 km from the A10 motorway. An hour's drive away in the tourist area of Charentes you will find lovely villages and sights. The town centre of St. Jean d'Angély, built around the abbey, is an UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can walk there in just ten minutes.

Used as a stop off on way to Spain, never been to this area of France so used as a base to look round some local sites.
Site is clean and very well looked after, toilets are good and appeared reasonably new.
Did not use the pool as did not have correct shorts?
Will use again if aI return to this area

Liked - Location of site along the river, riverside walk, small but interesting town
Disliked - signage wasn't as clear as ACSI book stated, route leaving to go back to motorway was easier than route to the site

The site beside a lake and river. The site is flat with shady and sunny areas. The grass Pitches are flat but EHU\'s and water are widely spaced and a long lead may be required. The toilet facilities are clean and basic. Clothes washing basins are too small. The town is a 15 minute walk away with a very attractive market on Saturday morning.
