First time we have used this site and okay for a stopover but nothing else. The toilets and showers are very poor and need replacing. Very close to Ruffec but quiet at night. Very little opportunity for walking or cycling in the area close to the site.
A camp-site I've used before. Easy to find just off a mile off the N10. Take the first on the right, before you enter Ruffec and then bear left across an open field (You'll see the camp-site) is easier than going into town. Easy access. Friendly welcome. Free wifi. One of the cheapest we've found this year. Toilets and showers dated. Pitches reasonable size. NiIce restaurant down by the river.
We stayed for one night in February during very cold weather conditions.
The only drinking water available was in the dish washing facility. The staff tried to help me obtain water but regrettably used a pump that had been used for purposes other than drinking water. As a consequence the drinking water system on my van has been contaminated with diesel.
I challenged them on this and they claimed that it had only been used for drinking water which was clearly not the case.
I also met one cabin resident with a young family who had been without heating and water overnight and were leaving.
Furthermore, the electricity point required me to lay the cable across the front door to a cabin. I said this was a potential hazard and asked if the cabin was occupied. The manager said it was occupied but it was ok as they were used to it and didn’t leave the cabin.
These are the facts. I dare say in different circumstances our experience could have been completely different. What would not change would be the competence of the management.
Sorry to say but the only reasonable thing about this site is the price and at 11€ it doesn't deserve to be any more. I appreciate we visited out of season but this site is open all year round. The pitches were very untidy and rough, toilets and showers smelt musty and damp, the pool (although closed) was like pea soup and after seeing the messy reception and food prep utensils stacked on the floor I wouldn't recommend eating there. Having said all that, it looks as though an effort is being made to improve parts of the site eventually and maybe it all looks better in the summer months. We had intended to use this as a stopover in January 2017 but that won't be happening.
Very nice place and fully agree with Patrick's comment. Close to the highway and easy to find. Toilets seem to be renovated and kept clean very regularly. Staff is very friendly, and speak English. The spot at the lake at 100m is gorgeous. Low prices. Definitely recommended. Wifi and pool are good. The back end of the camping looks a bit rough, so if it is crowded you might end up with a lesser spot.
We found this very easily using the Lon - Lat co-ordinates supplied in the App. Its down a narrow country lane so take it easy. We were met by a lovely french lady who spoke more English than we spoke French, so that was good. She then escorted us to a pitch that was half gravel and half grass, so best of both worlds. The site was clean and tidy and had one toilet/shower block which I would think would get quite busy at times. Pitches were served well with electric points (You need and old style adaptor) and stand pipe for water. The bar restaurant area was well laid out but we did not use it. Just a 150 meters down the road is a beautiful area with the river and weir (well worth a visit). Its a great stop over site or for a few nights, fabulous value for money. We will go back on our next trip south.
Can't agree with the comments of the couple who stayed in May 2015. We found the site very easy to find even though our satnav, wanted to take us down small lanes. Just stay on the N10 until you see the sight for the campsite. The site is good and is being improved, the pitches out of the shade are huge. The showers and toilet block are clean, not the newest, but more than adequate. There is a gym which for a campsite is very good, the pool is super and lots of chairs and/or shade. There is a great park by the river which is just a little walk down the lane, a great place to relax. Stephanie and her husband are very friendly and helpful, they let us choose any pitch we wanted and left us to set up in our own time. We went out to tour the local towns arriving back after the cafe closed. They prepared a lunch for us! So all in all a great place to stay for a short break.
Friendly site and unlike others quite easy to find. So helpful they identified a local vet for our dogs return examination. Beautiful swimming pool and food better than average. Beautiful quiet surroundings near the river. Will certainly use again.
We went here in May 2015 and the site was very scruffy and the emplacements rough under foot. There were dirty old caravans on the site and the toilet facilities were extremely poor. We were unable to find the showers at first until a member of staff pointed out the one shower which seemed to be for the whole campsite. We were allotted a pitch but didn't stay as we felt uncomfortable here in our motorhome. The only redeeming feature was the new swimming pool. We also found it very hard to find and it took us sometime to locate the site, coming in from the East of the village. We were very disappointed with this site and the fact that we then had to travel further than intended to find another suitable ACSI site
A very charming site run by a very charming couple who helped search for my missing car keys which weren't missing at all! Fully serviced pitches. Friendliness outstanding. 100m to the most beautiful river and stream network and field equipped with free outdoor gym machines called Fitform Parc. The best valued site we have encountered in the ACSI book!
