Arrived here on 2 feb after visit to gendarme to report the robbery of our cash/passports and cards...very helpful at our time of distress..so we returned on our way home...One of the the sites we will always visit from now on..go try it >peacefull ideal for a break or holiday. salon is a busling place with an HSBC
Lovely site, friendly staff. Only problem was very short period on taps, so filling an Aquaroll was tedious. Otherwise, a lovely site.
We spent only one night at the site instead of the planned week, as it was very end of season and very tired and dirty.
Pitches were unfinished and had no boundaries.
We found the entrance very very tight and the whole site was noisy with rushing water, farm machinery and traffic.
Gilles the owner is a wonderful host and is to be commended for the way he makes guests welcome on his site. The setting of this site is lovely, rural, but bus link nearby to the town of Salon, where you can get trains to Marseille etc. Salon itself is a lovely town. Gilles and the staff seem to speak a variety of languages excellently! Pool, looked nice but didn't use. Good quality cheap food and drink from the bar/restaurant, with outside sitting area. Our pitch was in an overspill field which looked as if it was being upgraded. the pitch was flat, and grassy/dry - but had a highway of ants somewhere in the vacinity, mozzies too - so take your citronella etc. The showers etc were clean and modern, but looked to us as if the site needed more of them. For us a 9 out of 10 and Very Good. Loved this place, would loveto go back.
This is a wonderful site for those who want or like a rural, quiet place to spend a very pleasant few days. The sanitary facilities are adequate but dated. Plenty of hot water. The people who run the site are very, very welcoming. There was a lot of evidence of improvements going on but not to our detriment. If you want manicured grass pitches this isn’t the site for you but if you want piece and quiet with the ability to take walks in the country direct from the site then have a look here. The site is accessed over a 17th century canal for irrigation. We would use it again.
Firstly, the very best thing about this site is the quirky & friendly owner, Gilles... I would recommend that you visit in order to meet him alone!
The site is pretty, well shaded and provides everything that you need. The surroundings (Salon) didn't suit us in the end, but everyone is different.
Toilet facilities were adequate, but dated (although for me, as long as sanitary arrangements are adequate, I am happy). The site is by a large, shallow & fast flowing 17th century irrigation culvert. Kids can play in it (although I would advise supervision). The swimming pool is very nice.
Their is usually high season entertainment led by the inimitable Gilles (looks hilarious on the website), although there was a wedding one night of our stay (loud music until 2am... GROAN).
Gilles was also allowing some seasonal workers to stay who turned out antisocial to us & others. I did tell him about this & he agreed there were problems (so hopefully he sent them packing).
Definitely worth a try...
