Camping Hopfensee is a very large camper & caravan site set on a beautiful lake with lovely views. All staff at Reception were very friendly and helpful. Sites were well laid out. Buses were free to visit castles when your scanned your camping card on bus. There is a change over bus location in Fussen for buses to take you to castles which are totally worth the visit despite the massive crowds. The line up to buy castles tickets was very long but if you walk further up the road to the museum you can buy your tickets here with no line up but does cost 2 Euros extra but totally worth it. All in all we were more than happy with our stay at Camp Hofensee and the facilities, showers, little supermarket at entry were excellent.
Camping Hopfensee was a great find for visiting Fussen in a motor can. Very professionally run, free transport to tourist sites. Great little market place at entrance to buy most things you need. Pitches were flat and ours overlooked the lake which was lovely. Must stay campsite for the most fastidious camper & a big plus was cheap internet.
Exceptional site, especially for an extended stay. Pitches nicely marked and toilet and showers impeccable. Besides the excellent lake for swimming and other fun, they have many other sports facilities and and entire children\'s game / recreation building. Market at front gate is good for basics. Staff were exceptionally helpful despite being incredibly busy. Be sure to bring your bikes for nice ride to Fussen (free public transit also available). Despite being a little expensive, definitely worth the price of you take advantage of everything hey have to offer.
Although this is a relatively expensive site the facilities are amazing. The indoor heated swimming pool was beautiful and there was even piped bird noise into the toilets! The location was very good, the lake is beautiful (even in the rain) and there were several places to eat overlooking the lake in the village. There was also a bus from the village, although we drove to the castles as it was so wet. The site gave us a \"Fussen card\" which mean that we got discounted entry to the castles and could have used the buses for free. The pitches themselves weren\'t enormous but adequate.
We stayed here because of its proximity to Neuschwanstein Castle, but Hopfensee is a destination in its own right. Situated on the shores of a pretty lake, people have been camping here for years. Stunning views in all directions, including from the panorama window in the warm indoor swimming pool. Excellent washrooms and facilities, including a dedicated children’s shower-room. Some annoying noise late at night / early morning from trains tooting nearby. Multi-lingual reception team. A short stroll away are a range of bars and restaurants in the village. All this comes at a price – you will need a bank loan to stay here. Internet was an extortionate. A site for campers with expensive tastes and large wallets.
Note: we stayed here on a six month European tour - our blog has photos and more: www.cantlays.com
This site was truly lovely. It was a little on the expensive side, the facilities showed this. Swimming in the indoor pool with the beautiful views of the mountains was lovely.
The sunsets on the lake were a photographers heaven.
It is very easy to visit the Fairytale castle from here
We stayed here on our way to Austria and would defiantly do so again.
Some of the pitches are sideways on, even though we don\\\'t have a mover we had plenty of choice.
The electric is metered, wifi good and reasonably priced.
A nice and very clean site, the boating and swimming lake is very close to the site and weather permitting is great to use. There are many safe cycling paths to the local town and the sports hall in the camp is fantastic, I couldn't keep the kids away from it. There was very little evening entertainment, which was the only negative.
A nice site, but entertainment could be better. The food in the restaurant is excellent, but this is not a very charming ambiance. A little music would absolutely help.
