Beautiful site with short walk to the Mosel River. We took the car to the Park and Ride and headed in to Koblenz on the bus. Well worth a visit to see the old town and the viewpoint where the Mosel river joins the Rhine.
Very friendly well run site, facilities beautifully clean and maintained. The main negative for us was the token system for showers. 4 minutes to shower and wash your hair!!! If you manage to get started, I was reduced to tears 2 mornings running with frustration to make if work. Also with the shower style you will wash your hair whether you want to or not. If you press the water rest after your 4 minutes that counts as an additional shower. Lovely fresh rolls available every morning.
Gulser Moselbogen looks fantastic from the aerial shots, but so far has been the site we have been most disappointed with on our travels. A huge fence provides security, but stops you getting out to wander the banks of the Mosel. The site was dominated by ugly permanent caravans, the touring pitches were nothing special, and the showers worked on a complex wristband system. Freight trains pass nearby. Hard to see why this was picked by our guidebook as one of the best in Europe. Internet was expensive but worked very well. Overall bad value for money in March. Also beware of the very steep downhill approach from the motorway.
So good that we stayed an extra day.
The campsite is situated about 7km from Koblenz alongside the River Mosel, although we found no direct access to the bank or view of the river from within the campsite itself. The site is very well maintained and attractive, with a backdrop of forests on the other side of the river. A railway line runs next to the site, but this did not bother us at all.
On arriving, we found the staff to be extremely helpful and friendly and spoke excellent English. We were given a choice of pitches and were able to look around before selecting the one we wanted and going back to reception to check in.
The grassed pitches all had plenty of room and were clearly marked out.
On checking in, we were given tokens, each having 10 credits. These could be used for the showers and other facilities on site. The token also controlled raising the barrier when entering the site, but was not needed for the barrier when leaving. On checkout, the number of credits used is checked and charged at 50 cents per credit.
The toilets and showers were all clean, with large cubicles, and paper and hand soap provided. The cubicles also all had hooks for hanging clothes and wash bags. As well as showers, there were plenty of private wash rooms. The male and female WCs and male and female showers were all in separate rooms. The sanitary block also had a room for washing up, and a microwave and hobs.
Bikes could be hired from reception at a cost of €5 per day, and most of the journey to where the Rhine and Mosel meet (one of the most interesting spots in the City) was via cycle paths.
There was a cafe/bar on site, although we didn\'t make use of it, and in the morning it sells bread, which does not need to be ordered in advance.
This was a lovely site, well run by friendly staff, with clean and and modern facilities within easy reach of the city, and one we would definitely return to again if in the area.
Very good site. Excellent toilet block. Staff helpful and spoke good English. Very pleasant cycle ride into Koblenz which is a lovely city with lots of interesting things to see. Watching the traffic on the Rhine was fascinating.
