Camping Zeus has only one use, to visit the ruins of Pompeii or go up Mount Vesuvius. The entrance to the ruin is adjacent to the site and a tourist bus for Vesuvius leaves from outside the gates. On our visit the site was over full; a significant part of the site is given over to car parking (which is obviously more profitable) and we had to wait two hours for a space on the car park to be available (we had rung ahead and been promised a pitch but staff not completely truthful regarding availability). The toilets/showers are very tired and the rubbish bins overflowing. Be aware that there are few places to eat; they all seem to shut up when the ruins close. The area around the campsite is dirty and rubbish strewn, such a pity as the ruins are worth visiting.
The site access and leaving is difficult, we had problems leaving as cars in the car parking area were protruding into the track. A caravan outfit in front of us had a nightmare trying to manoeuvre. The site is ideally placed to visit Pompeii but that is where it ended. The pitches are difficult to get on and off and are of limited space. The toilets and showers ( the ones that worked ) were tired, locks on doors were a problem as was hot water, they were cleanish. Staff were uninterested and unhelpful. Was going to stay for a few days , but visited the ruins and left within the 24 hour charging band. If wanting to visit Pompeii , then it is an \"option\"
Camping Zeus has only one use, to visit the Ruins of Pompeii. or, if you want to, go up Mount Vesuvius. It is ideal for both as the ruins entrance is literally next door and a tourist bus for Vesuvius leaves from directly outside the gates. Other than as an overnight stopover to visit these two attractions Camping Zeus has nothing whatsoever to offer campers! The toilets/showers were disgusting, the chemical disposal point a health risk and the pitches very small with low overhanging branches making life very difficult. The rubbish bins were overflowing during our stay and stank to high heaven. Half of the site is given over to car parking which is obviously more profitable. Thete is noting to do and few decent places to eat after about 7.00pm when the ruins close. Most eateries served up sandwiches or other \'Fast Food\' Streets around the campsite were dirty, rubbish strewn and dangerous to walk on. The whole area was in a state of decline. We will never visit Camping Zeus again.
Very convenient for the ruins and Vesuvius but the site was chronically over-filled with the result that some units were within touching distance of their neighbours. The free showers were OK but only cold water was supplied to the sinks which was also the single source for replenishing our aquaroll. The stink of stagnant water surrounded the central area and the only two pitches capable of accommodating our 8m caravan were flooded with it. We stayed on the car park surrounded by private taxis for the two days we were there. So disappointing because it\'s an orange grove - could have been so beautiful. We managed to catch a good pizzeria before it closed at 19:30 - the other stalls had all gone home by then leaving the area unexpectedly quiet. Trying to be positive - the staff were mainly helpful but not completely truthful regarding the availability of a pitch. If visiting this area again we would avoid this site.
Zeus is in a great position to see all of the sites, Napoli, Sorrento, Capri, the Amalfiand Coast, Vesuvius and of course Pompeii. The train station is literally outside the site and the trains run very frequently between Sorrento and Naples. Tickets for all excursions can be purchased immediately outside the campsite. The toilet facilities whilst clean are in need of modernisation as are the showers, there is only cold water for washing the pots which is disappointing. The campsite is very narrow so beware, we have a 7.4m caravan and 5 m car and had to unhook to get round as did most large rigs, camper vans and small rigs were ok as long as they were careful.
Very well situated for Pompei ruins, just a few minutes walk down the road, as was the train station for Naples/Sorrento.
But the staff were very unfriendly, unhelpful, you got the impression that all they wanted was you money. The site was really tight, we opened our motorhome door and nearly ended up on our neighbours table, it really was that tight.
The roads were very small as were the plots. Half site used as a car park for tourists, that is where all the space went.
Very disappointed by the whole site.
Would not go back again.
The only good thing about this site is its location. It is NOTas described on the website or in the ACSI discount book. The toilet facilities are not excellent. The water is warm at best the mirrors have mostly gone black. They are hosed out but not cleaned effectively. The rubbish bins outside were overflowing and not emptied on the three nights we stayed. Reception spoke English but was surly and unhelpful. The Wifi rarely worked anywhere on the site. The pitches are mostly small and access is cramped with narrow access roads and low overhanging trees. Half the site appears to be a public car park. A second toilet block is a little better and is where washing machines can be found. However you have to walk through the public car park bit to get to it and the washing machines are monopolized by the restaurant. Whilst we were there the restaurant was closed in the evenings. We were directed into the town for food, bread and any shopping.
Worst customer service we have ever known!!! No greeting on reception, no information and no-one gives a damn! A refund request spent on the appalling wifi nearly caused a riot. Get in, see the sights, and get out!
I agree with BernieV below. Busy site, with the obvious attraction of immediate access to Pompeii ruins, the Naples/Sorrento railway station & a Carrefour just down the road! However, site roads are narrow & most pitches are quite small & close together, many with overhanging branches - don‘t even try to reverse without help! Sanitary facilities basic & not particularly clean or well-maintained. Reasonable staff (some English spoken). Wi-fi available.
Stayed here in May 2014 for 3 nights. Closest sight to Pompeii ruins, literally next door and train station was 2 minute walk, where you can catch a train either to Naples or Sorrento, both 30 minutes away. Staff at reception spoke English but were unhelpful, arrogant and rude. Pitches were a reasonable size, however access to manoeuvre into pitches is restricted due to trees, low branches and tight access roads. The toilets were of a basic standard, looked dirty and the showers had very low pressure and luke warm water. Wi-fi is available throughout the site but very seldom did we manage to get a good connection, we watched people walking about the site trying to pick up wi-fi on their laptops. Wouldn’t stay here again but the site is in a good location for visiting the ruins.
