Close to Catania, on the rocky coast of the Ionian Sea, you will find the medium-sized terraced camping site Jonio. The camping site extends at the foot of Mount Etna. The centre of Catania is some 5 km from the camping site. The camping site is very popular because of the beautiful view of the sea and its tranquillity. The camping site is located near a quiet residential area.
Camping with a sea view
Camping site Jonio (1.2 ha) is located in a wooded area. There are eighty touring pitches on the grounds. You have a choice of a pitch with more or less shade or even in the sun. Please keep in mind that the surface of the terraced camping site is mostly hard. The most beautiful pitches have seaview. Ideal to watch the sunrise. Camper vans and caravans are parked on a terrain with beautiful view of the cliffs and the waves.
The well equipped bungalows and mobile homes stand relatively close together. Yet, you have ample privacy.
Swimming, windsurfing and snorkelling
You can reach the sea and rocky coast via a flight of stairs. There is no beach, but you can swim in the sea between the rocks. You can go windsurfing and snorkelling at Jonio. Diving lessons are also offered.
The camping site restaurant offers an extensive menu and has a large terrace. Pizzas, snack and take-away meals are also available here. The bar has a spacious area featuring regular shows and performances by dancers or musicians. On the camping site you can buy daily fresh bread or breakfast and a modest range of groceries.

This is a lovely campsite. From the moment we arrived the friendliness and kindness of the Receptionist Maria was amazing. All the young staff working there are pleasant and courteous and the best I have met while camping.
The campsite is clean and the facilities are good. Easy to walk to the bus stop to get to Catania. Lots of places to go nearby but still quiet enough at night. We drove to Mt Etna and it took about an hour. Traveling through the lovely villages and up the mountain road where the beauty and smell of fresh flowers is amazing.
The restaurant serves good food at the campsite and there is ample space for a car and tent. We liked this campsite so much we are going back on our return as it is near to the Port and because Maria and her colleagues are so lovely.
Great stopover. I was a bit concerned by some of the negative reviews but we were very happy with this site. The two young women in reception were friendly, welcoming and helpful. The site was quiet so we had lots of choice and chose a space under the trees opposite reception. I have read a comment that grey waste disposal was difficult. This is patently not true and it is as easy as anywhere else. Haven\'t used the chemical waste disposal but it does look slightly odd as it is a tube.
There are a lot of cats around but they didn\'t cause us any problems. Would definitely stop here again
Great site on a lava outcrop by the sea. Pitches are level and water is close by. Electric is only 3 amp so bring a gas kettle. Toilets and showers are very clean, sanitary blocks are old and tired but functional. Easy access to motorhome services. Approach to campsite could be difficult if you follow gps as you end up in narrow lane. The campsite signs take you to a wide access point. The chemical toilet point is badly designed and it is impossible to completely empty the toilet cassette.
Good for Catania, Etna etc.
Wonderful. Perched a few feet above the sea. Brilliant sea swimming. Very helpful, multilingual, staff. Large supermarket 200m away. Frequent buses into town. Just wondering if we can manage to get back there for a couple of days before leaving Sicily.
