Situated in the middle of nowhere under pine trees. In May, with no pool or bar or restaurant open, it seemed a bit expensive. There are no marked pitches, just random un-level ground. However we could just see the top of Etna and the road up from there to Etna is quite spectacular and therefore it is a handy location. Had to pay extra for coin operated hot showers, but had to run across the room to put more in, if a longer shower is needed. Very antiquated facilities.
As motorhome dwellers for a couple of nights we thought the accommodation was adequate. The pitches weren't structured, just a reasonably flat area between a field of trees. It was quiet when we were there. Only two other motor homes; quite a number of tenters.
Showers were one euro and lasted five minutes. Can't remember whether you could have a free cold shower or not.
There is a restaurant, the food is pleasant without being great. Pasta comes aplenty!
The pool looked nice though we didn't really get a chance to use it. It was very clean and inviting though.
We asked about info on etna but all we got back was a guided tour up to etna, and only one at that. We weren't sure whether it was lost in translation or whether they were pushing only certain information as we know there are MANY tours being offered. We also asked about the daily bus service up to etna but didn't get much out of that, once again info about the one tour. In the end we talked to a couple of other people who could speak English and they gave us valuable info. Forget the bus and drive the motorhome up to etna itself! The roads are great and there is a huge parking lot! If we knew that we would have done that instead. You can also find out more about tours etc when you are up there.
Camping there was not bad though, on the contrary it was pleasant. We got to do the walk up Mount Rossi which runs up behind the campsite, and nicolosi itself is not a bad little town. Just wish we knew we could easily drive up to Etna in our motorhome, and also park there!
