In the middle of the Montesinho nature reserve, one of the largest nature reserves in Portugal, lies camping site Cepo Verde. This terraced camping site has only forty touring pitches and some rental accommodation units, charming wooden chalets. There are no fixed pitches, but you can choose your own beautiful spot. Enjoy the swimming pool or wander through the mountains or old villages. The camping site has a good restaurant. If you are interested in souvenirs, you can head for the traditional wooden reception building. Here the largest pocket knife in the world is exhibited.
Camping in nature
Cepo Verde is a camping site with many trees. The centuries-old chestnut trees, oaks and cherry trees provide ample shade. At the bottom of the camping site there is a large camping field and higher up you will find the various terraces. Most of the surface is sandy or covered with grass. As this is a natural camping site, the paths and other parts are not always level.
Entertainment for young and old
Families will thoroughly enjoy themselves. Do not expect bells and whistles, but a small scale entertainment team (English-speaking), some play equipment, a table tennis table and a modest swimming pool. This pool (120 m²) is beautiful and well cared for, but only open from 1 June to 30 August. You can relax on the lawn around the swimming pool.
Baking bread and picnicking
Provided there is enough interest, the camping site organises activities such as bread baking in a traditional oven, deer spotting walks and picnics at a nearby mill.
Ecological sanitation facilities
The sanitary buildings at Capo Verde are beautiful and recently renovated. There is also a toilet for disabled persons. The showers are eco-efficient, which is in line with the policy of this camping site amidst nature.

We stayed for 4 nights and loved it. Our pitch had a wonderful view over wooded slopes. Staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The restaurant even had vegetarian options on the menu: brilliant! Site is quite close to Braganca, although you need to drive there.
Thansk so much Chris Vickerman for yu review and apreciation. We hope to see you again next year. Kind regards
Beautiful countryside, amazing views and walks. Historic villages to visit and local delicacies to eat and drink. Return to peaceful campsite with very friendly and jovial staff who speak almost any language you do. Site needs some improvements to paths and steps but basic facilities are excellent. We were stopping overnight and stayed 5 nights.
Hello and thanks so much for your visit and review. Will make major improvments at the campsite thru the next 2 or 3 years, every year. This is a family businnes since 1993 and every year, the new direction makes improvments. Each thing at the time. Very soon will renovate the swimming pool and also the restaurant (facilities, terrace and menu). We hope you can visit us again so you can experience this new thinks coming on. Best wishes
This site was recommended to us by fellow motorhomers. What a great find. Staff lovely and friendly, very helpful. Slightly difficult setting electric hook up, ideally need 2 leads, but we managed. Toilet and showers blocks excellent. Very peaceful and tranquil site. Swimming pool too cold for me, ideally would of liked to be able to sit around pool, but no chairs or loungers. Would re visit when next in the area.
Hello and many thanks for your visit and review. And thank your for the suggestion for the chairs/lounger. We´l try to put those very soon, also when alt he swimming poll will be renewed for more comfort. Best regards.
Staying on this unusual campsite brought back nice memories of African Safari Lodges & Campsites. Where else can you enjoy a well-maintained pool with a beautiful view on a very hot day all by yourself? Followed by a coffee or drink on the lovely restaurant/bar terrace.
This site is an excellent base for extended trekking tours in the Montesinho Natural Park.
In contrast to previous reviews the brand-new sanitary facilities are now excellent.
Hello dear Allwardt and many thanks for review. We´ll do improvements now each year, so 2017 new thinks will be done at the campsite to. Kind regards.
Very freindly and personable staff. Very helpful they spoke English. A nice site that felt off the beaten track although not far from some local amenities. The pool was a reasonable size and clean. Toilets wrre old but clean and there was a sign to say they were due for refurbishment.
We are very happy to inform that we have now a new shower and toilet building that we have renewed profoundly since October 2015 to April 2016. So every thing is brand new now and really eco efficient to. We have details on the building that people really love now. You can check it on our website (www.montesinnho.com/cepoverde) or at our Facebook www.facebook/cepoverde). We hope that you can visit again to see and experience these improvements.
Great campsite, a very warm welcome. We stayed here in January this year; great views across the wild countryside; the bar is very welcoming with a log burner on and roast chestnuts and a glass of port plus it has the largest penknife in the world - stood up in the bar - it's in the Guinness book of records; it was very quite but beautiful.
