Stopped over the night before the ferry. Easyfor the ferry but don\'t trythis site with a large unit as the track to the site is winding, narrow and steep. Beautiful views from the pitch, a terraced site so inevitably a steep walk to the facilities. Facilities were good and staff were friendly.
A family run site. The owners were very helpful. We are cyclists, giving us info on where to go. The cycling was brilliant we stayed a week The site is terraced with spectacular views overlooking the sea. Toilets clean plenty of hot water. It\'s a bit of a hike if you need to walk to town. Very convenient for both ferries to Bilbao and Santander. Would recommend site and would definitely come back
This is lovely hillside terraced campsite with panoramic views of the Bay of Biscay with very helpful, pleasant staff, one guy speaks very good English.
However we did have issues getting here..... Initially our SatNav sent us up the first turning on the right, and into a dead end/dirt track!! Please ensure you take the second turning on the right when you see the camping sign, better still look for the Bull Ring and turn right here. Continue up past the Carrefour Mini and the flats and on through the tunnel and follow the camping signs.
The road to the site goes up hill and after a couple of bends, turns into a single track road for the last 1km (we met a car head on and she couldn\'t reverse for toffee which caused an issue!)
There are about 12 pitches on a newly grassed area, on the first terrace up.
There is a good bar and restaurant with views over the swimming pool below and over Castro. The pool however does not have a sunbathing area or any loungers, just the spacious pool surround. We were there at the end of June when the schools had broken up so plenty of children in the pool.
The site has many Spanish static mobile homes so plenty of activity from them during the week and I guess weekends would be busier.
The town of Castro-Urdiales is very pleasant with easy underground parking at the seafront, an interesting castle and church, a long sea wall and a nice promenade. We got a booklet from reception giving town information and a map.
We chose to stay at this site to enable us to have a day in Bilbao and there is a bus from the bullring, approx. a 1.5 walk downhill. The bus was very good and went every 30 minutes, on the hour and half hour, and took about 45 minutes. On our return we cheekily hitched a ride back uphill from a kind resident who was pleased to help :)
Note: we realised too late there is plenty of parking down near the tunnel and we could have parked down there and then go the bus to save the walk back up hill to the site when we returned!
So a couple of issues, but a very nice site for a brief stay and convenient for Bilbao and the ferry.
A nice little campsite located near to Bilbao ideal for catching the ferry. Had an adult and toddler pool although too cold to use. Has good facilities and friendly staff.
Had to drive into the nearby town as the site is situated on a steep hill and not suitable for a pushchair for our little one.
Campsite easy to find with a satnav , hilly approach. Reception not open but we were able to find a pitch and later on we got hook up. Loos and showers adequate and clean. Site has fantastic views over the coast and is on the outskirts of a lovely little town which is worth a visit in its own right. We also took a bus to Bilbao from there. Good stopover for port. The site was closing the next day although advertised as being open until the end of December.
this is a perfect site if you are getting the ferry home from Bilbao or Santander - the new owner was very helpful and the views are fabulous - not easy to pop into town as uphill to campsite but great views of dramatic coast. We were at the Bilbao ferry port in half an hour.
Toilets were dirty from the kids.
This evaluation has been obtained by our inspector from a questionnaire at the camp site.
Internet worked ok, so I was satisfied until staff member completely covered my tent and other belongings with dirt by using lawn mover to cut grass and level some bumps on the ground few meters away from my tent.
As far as I could tell, it was not a malevolent act but stupidity ("I was told to cut the grass, not care about customers." or something like that), but it nonetheless pissed me off and I had to use a better part of an hour to brush dirt of from my luggage and stuff that happened to be inside of the tent, below the large see the stars kind of mosquito net. And the tent itself is still dirty. Will not return. Tap water had very distinct and unpleasant taste of earth.
