Close to the beach and the village of Laredo you will find the excellently maintained camping site Laredo. Especially during weekends, you will see many Basques enjoying the sun, sea and beach. The permanent guests are usually grouped together on a dedicated field. The 315 demarcated camping pitches vary in size and are beautifully laid out. The smallest pitches measure some 60 m2. Not very spacious, but quietly located and surrounded by nature. The camping site also has twelve relatively new rental bungalows.
Dining in the restaurant
The restaurant is open in summer (small menu) so that you can enjoy a meal on Camping Laredo. The camping site shop has a reasonable assortment. You can order fresh bread each day.
Attractive swimming pool and beach
The camping site has a large outdoor swimming pool despite the fact that the sea and beach are close by. It measures some 400 m2. Toddlers and infants have ample room here and can enjoy themselves in a pool of some 80 m2. Next to the swimming pool, you will find a lawn where you can soak up the sun and read a book. The camping site is located near a beautiful and safe sandy beach. It takes only five minutes by bicycle.
There is a variety of play equipment and a recreation area for children. There is an entertainment programme and a mini club several times a week. Adults can go fishing, play snooker or follow a signposted walking route. The camping site has a table tennis table.

We arrived 20 August, straight from the Santander ferry, a great 35 minute drive. However ignore your Satnav and Asci directions and follow the signs for the camp site, go straight on at the roundabout into town and then a left at the signs, otherwise you will end up on a sandy track. The camp site was emptying out so we pitched our 8m caravan at the end with about 4 spare pitches, no one came, but people slowly left and the camp site emptied out, however we left before the weekend. It was mainly Spanish seasonal caravans around us, not particularly friendly but we had plenty of room around us. The 25m pool was amazing, not heated but great as it was hot. No floats and caps must be worn, they sell them in the reception.Outside of the site is a row of horses that you can take on a tour around the estuary for a prize. Our family just walked so felt safe on the horses we were given, however, I said I could ride so was put on a very flighty one. They has hats for us all and it was a gorgeous ride along the estuary with the sun setting. You can\'t swim in the estuary, it\'s too dirty but the beach is a 10 minute walk and beautiful, sand dunes behind apartment blocks were fine, didn\'t appear an eye sore to me. You can take a ferry across to Santona from the point where it becomes an estuary or an expensive tour from the harbour. Santona is quite an upmarket resort with nice shops and bars, the beach isn\'t as nice, but lots of great seafood.
In Laredo, you can cycle all along the beach front to the port and then up into the Old Town which is great for bars for Pinxos. It is about a 20 minute journey. However there are numerous restaurants near to the camp site, particularly one for seafood and grilled meat. We really enjoyed this site with our 2 children, very Spanish, great beach, food and horses greeting us every evenings, but we moved in when the weather changed as there wasn\'t much else to do here. Not sure what it would be like when it is busy. There is a huge team of staff, always cleaning, the toilets were cleaned all day long and other staff sweeping up leaves. The man in the bar seemed a bit grumpy at our small vocabulary on Spanish so we decided. It to eat there at all. The large shop is very well stocked.
We visited the site in May and found most of it operational except the pool. The shower block is not heated and has open upper walls to atmosphere but is very well appointed and maintained. Pitches are generous and on grass which is well drained. There are 2 riding schools at the entrance which we did not try, and may be good for children and adults. The resort was empty, but the town of Laredo was busy and good for food and shopping. Supermarkets are within 2km. Enjoy :-)
A nice site a bit further away from the town than we thought though there is a half hourly bus service @ 45 mins to the hour from the bus stop at the main road and 15 mins past from a block away, 1eu45 a trip.
Spacious pitches very good and clean facilities. On site shop has basic supplies and recommendation is that shopping is picked up before arriving. Free wifi very good.
Site seems to be used as a stopover but Laredo definitely worth a visit even if just for the pinchos at Bar Buenos Aires.
