"Lovely and quietly located family campsite with swimming pools. With plenty of privacy. You can realise your own private spot with a view of the sea and mountains. Favourably located for excursions to the Picos de Europa (30 minutes). Excellent toilet blocks: one by the sea and one higher up."

Prachtig mooie camping. Locatie top. Helaas verschrikkelijk onvriendelijk personeel.

Duur!! Was vorig jaar zo mooi!!!

Spent 2 nights here before ferry from Santander. Fabulous huge site on many levels sloping down to the sea. Nice beach for swimming, if a little stony. No pitches as such, locations are dictated by hookup boxes(4 per box). Unusual hookup system, boxes are locked so you have to pitch up, then tell them the box number & they come & unlock the box to plug in. No idea why this system. Decent shop & unusually for Spain no need to pre order bread. Didn’t use restaurant so can’t comment
Spotless & large facilities & they have invested in WiFi as I had good coverage on a lower slope. Pool area nice, but don’t know if it was because we came the week before site closed, but there were no umbrellas/loungers.for shade.

Travelling party: Group of friends

Three and a half weeks.

An excellent site split into a variety of ‘camping areas’ … some on terraces overlooking the eponymous beach, whilst others are in green wooded sections, or overlooking the ria which borders the western side of the site.

Two swimming pools (kidney shaped) … though most will use the beach, which offers moderate surf at times, and is tidal (Bay of Biscay).

As much of the site is situated on a hillside, the connecting roads/tracks are steepish in parts … though many caravans of all sizes, and motorhomes, had little difficulty in accessing pitches.

You cannot book ahead … but, the site guarantees to find you a site when you turn up. We moved twice before settling on a pitch we really liked. Singularly, pitches are not marked out in any way … so marking out your ‘territory at some pitches, becomes a necessity e. G. Leaving a couple of chairs where you park your car (else you may return to find someone pitched there!)

This does mean that you can have very generous sized pitches if you need the space … occasional discussions between campers occur to ensure that access to pitches are kept ‘open’ … especially along the terraced areas.

Wifi is always available near the reception area, though not particularly fast … there is no covered section … so wet weather access can be tricky … sometimes wifi reception was possible in other parts of the site … but this was variable.

A good bar/restaurant at the site entrance is open all day and does good evening meals as well as simple breakfasts (café con leche and tostadas for 3 euros).

The ablutions are modern, attractively tiled, papered, seated and soap dispensers and fastidiously cleaned several times a day …. They remained spotless throughout the days for all the three and a half weeks we stayed.

Despite the number of campers, the site was peaceful and quiet (especially at night).

Set midway between San Vincente de la Barquera (a picturesquely set fishing port with dozens of restaurants offering sea-food fare of all varieties … the best of which may be the Sotavento … but there are lots!), and the more up-market Llanes (bigger, with more shops and more sophisticated ‘feel’);

This site offers a great base to ‘do Cantabria … the road to Potes and the Fuente De cable car starts at Unquera (three miles from the campsite) … Potes is one of the main gateways to the incomparable Picos de Europa (Fuente De and the Cares Gorge Walk … using a 4x4 to collect you at one end, then drive you for a few hours ‘off piste’ in the fabulous mountain scenery, is a life-memory! The cheapestand, probably, the best deal, is to use AVENTURAS EN ASTURIAS

You can drive your own car to either end of the Cares ‘Walk’, they collect you at the other end …. You go for a four hour ‘off piste’ Picos tour, and are returned to your car … all for 30 euros a head! The Potes 4x4 jaunt costs 70 euros a head) … also, be aware that, if you start ar the Poncebos end you have a 2 km climb (not high difficulty, but meaningful), whereas the Cain end sees a gentle clim fo a km then level going till the final 2 km descent to Poncebos … so, choose to you’re your ability level and ease of road access to the starting point of your choice.

Fourth time this holiday for us! … be sure to choose a ‘good weather forecast day’ … unclouded peaks make a big difference … we’ve always managed it.

Other things to do in the area: the spectacular Soplao caves; Comillas and the Gaudi Extravaganza; Santillana Del Mar and the nearby Altamira Cave paintings; canoeing on the River Deva; lots and lots of walking/hiking; mountain biking and road biking (hilly); fantastic cider houses ….

You’ve not tasted cider till you have Asturian Sidra …. Poured from a height into your glass: watch an expert, then try it yourself … it’s cheap as chips, so floor spillage doesn’t inflict a pecuniary wound!

We’ll be back!
