Camping Altomira is situated between the Espadán and Calderona nature reserves, some 25 km from the Mediterranean and an hour's drive from the fascinating city of Valencia. It is a quiet spot from where you can venture anywhere. From the camping site there are wonderful walking and cycling routes over paved trails.
The steep, terraced camping site offers reasonably large, beautifully laid out pitches on compacted gravel. On the lowest section you will find many permanent pitches, as well as most of the facilities. Rental accommodation units (bungalows) are located on the middle section. On the top section, campers have a splendid view of Navajas and the surrounding area. The pitches here are demarcated with hedges and are sheltered by an artificial sunroof.
Nice swimming pool
There is a lovely swimming pool with separate toddler pool (depth 50 cm) surrounded by sun loungers. It is a wonderful area to relax in the shade of the pine trees.
Walking along former mining routes
Children can play to their heart's content on a play area and sports field. Furthermore, there is an entertainment programme in high season. There are also excursion programmes and guided walks. Starting from the camping site are some great walking and cycling routes over the so-called 'camis verdes', paved trails on former narrow-gauge railway lines used for mining. There is a bicycle workshop for campers with their own bicycle. Very handy when your push-bike has to be repaired.
There is an excellent restaurant with limited menu (daily menu) where you can also eat delicious paella for a very reasonable price. Daily fresh bread is available. There is a supermarket at a distance of only 4 km. There are a few barbecues on the camping site.

The welcome here was very good and because the site is terraced the views are good too. However it is an awkward site to get into and larger units may well have some difficulties. There is a "lip" on the edge of many of the pitches and so manoevering into a pitch may be hard. I ground our grey water tank getting in - luckily without any damage and fortunately there was a helpful person on the next pitch who then helped us in. The water was hot but the facilities could do with updating (the top ones at least - the lower ones were a little better) and a deep clean maybe. The site roads are in fairly poor condition. The cafe was pleasant and friendly & via Verde an attraction. The town of Navajas is fairly small and does not have a lot of shops or anything. We'd use this as a stopover again (though it would depend on what sized unit we had) - unsure if we would stay much longer.
Campsite staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They run a well stocked shop, which was really helpful as most shops in town seemed closed. The washroom facilities are very good and very clean. The site is a great base for some good walking and cycling and has good views over the town. Navajas is an interesting little town with some wonderful villas and impressive waterfalls.
This campsite is perfect for location as you are close to so many scenic places of interest (caves, waterfalls, natural lakes). The reception desk almost doubles up as a tourist information and the staff are so helpful to ensure you enjoy your stay. The pitches are tiered and terraced which run up a steep bank, offering excellent views but tired legs! The pitches are spacious but set on very hard ground and if in a tent you will need to ask reception for their steel nails to use as pegs. There was a lot of cats on site which would kindly leave their mess underneath the gravel covering on the pitches. This was only a mild annoyance given the postives of this campsite. The area has some of the most beautiful sights to see but make sure you have a car to visit many of them.
The pitch approach a bit tight for large car+caravan, but some serviced, special rate in Jan/Feb time new toilet block excellent the town and area well worth a visit,
we would always go back there each year, that is Elaine myself and the 2 dogs
Fantastic site with super facilities. Sanitary warm and clean. Terraced pitches for tourers with great views across the valley.
The only downside - some of the parcelas are quite small, there was no room for an awning even on our small camper. Many parcel as had a steep kerb at the entrance making access difficult if van has low exhaust.
Proximity to Via Verd makes it easy to access good walking
We had planned this as a 1 night stop, well we stayed 7 nights. After reading previous reviews we considered it as a night over but found a little gem! Yes, the access to the pitches can be difficult due to the kerbs but I managed with our TA 8m caravan without a mover. One of the reviews complained the chemical toilet emptying point was far from the touring pitches, there was one at each of the heated toilet blocks, but positioned by the washing up sinks a rather unusual place. The touring area is at the top of the terraced site, views were stunning. The Via Verde, an old railway track that is now a cycle/walk way passes the edge of the site and goes for miles in both directions. The local town has a few shops, a bar or two and a walk that has waterfalls. There was a better supermarket at Jerica, 5 miles of easy cycle along the Via Verde. Reception staff very helpful, site walking distance from station and Valencia return was 8.75€.
This is a really great site. Near a lovely little town. Great walking near the site and around. Very good washrooms, heated in winter which we appreciated. Extremely helpful staff. We took the train to Valencia for the day. Approach is fairly steep but great views when you are pitched. Highly recommended.
Very pleasant staff. Our motorhome is 7.9 metres long and there were only two pitches we could access (one of which was taken) due to to the layout approach to the pitches and for this reason we would not stay here again. There was no privacy between the pitches and a large number of flies in the area. On the plus side, the walking route along the old railway track was pleasant, as were the views from the campsite. We were only there for one night so did got manage to get to the town. The restaurant was closed whilst we were there.
situated on steep slope, but managed a Nissan Xtrail and Bailey pageant 7m + length
Showers Toilets ect. very warm & clean
good walking along old railway and surrounding area
Attractive terraced campsite with beautiful views. Very helpful reception. Toilets clean and heated. We had an excellent and very economically priced meal in the bar. Interesting town close by with very pretty houses. Only slight complaint is that the pitches were difficult to access with a car/caravan
