Camping right next to a castle: that is possible at campsite Château de Martragny. This campsite is located in the French department of Calvados, close to the Normandy beaches. A twenty kilometre drive takes you to the coast. The campsite itself is one big playground for children. They can run across the lawns and play everywhere. And of course, diving into the swimming pool is also a favourite activity of the younger campers. Those looking for peace and quiet will find space and freedom.

Space and freedom on your pitch

Space and freedom: the two key words of this campsite. On the one hand the camping site is filled with apple trees. On the other hand, there are large, open lawns. The spacious pitches on these lawns are not really defined. Therefore you have a free view. And you always have a view of that beautiful castle that towers above the trees. In this castle, you can have breakfast and delicious dinners. You can also choose a pitch a little further into the forest. Where it is extra quiet and shady.

One big playground, with swimming pool

For children, the campsite is one big playground. There is a playground on the site where they can climb and clamber around. But they can also let off steam on the large lawns. So don't forget the football, the boules and badminton rackets, because there is plenty of room for them.

Looking for another great spot for the whole family? Behind the castle is the swimming pool. Quiet laps are particularly attractive in the low season, when there are fewer families staying at the campsite.

Travelling party: Seniors

Liked - The pitches and surroundings were lovely. Sanitaires very good. Staff very friendly and helpful
Disliked - The pigeons we're a nuisance on our pitch, landing on the van. Uncontrolled children in the swimming pool who monopolised it making it hard to even have a short swim. It would be good if the shop opened a little earlier in the morning. All the other sites we visited had bread available from 8.

Liked - A beautiful campsite. The toilets and showers are fantastic and very clean. The lady at reception wad very nice but it would have been nice if she had shown us to our pitch because it was really difficult to find and we needed a cable twice as long as the one we have to reach the hook up.
Disliked - The pool closes at 7pm, too early. There's nowhere to get rid of grey water. The guy at the bar was rude. We sat down at a table that wasn't being used and he was rude to us. If there had been a sign at the door saying please wait to be seated we wouldn't have entered the restaurant. So we went back to the camper and didn't spend our money in the restaurant.

Liked - Short distance from Cherbourg ferry port. Great first stop of our holiday and hopefully last stop on our return journey home. Nice facilities and friendly staff. Beautiful grounds
Disliked - Challenge finding direct entera ce using GPS as the slip rod no longer exists and results in a 10 mile approx diversion

Liked - Lovely site. Well placed for Bayeux, the Normandy beaches and the surrounding area. Clean, good facilities and helpful staff. Would return.
Disliked - The restaurant was a massive disappointment. Particularly the steak. Overpriced, chewy and full of gristle. Such a shame. Service was slow. One gentleman for all the tables. I waited at the bar for drinks. He told me there was no bar service then shortly after proceeded to serve someone at the bar! Don’t let it stop you coming here but my advice would be eat elsewhere…

Liked - The camp site is great! Facilities are comprehensive and well kept, nice and clean. The shop is modest but well stocked with any essentials you may need. The restaurant and bar have a good range of drinks and a decent menu. Our group of 5 ate there every night and the prices didn't break the bank. Personally this was my 3rd visit and I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Liked - Lovely site split into sections, so that you didn't feel overcrowded. Food in restaurant was very good.
Disliked - This is not meant as a criticism, but the restaurant/bar could have done with extra staff. It was very busy on the night we ate there, and the guy was absolutely rushed off his feet, but credit to him, he got on with the job and kept a smile on his face
