Camp sites in Lower Saxony, camping in the north east of Germany
In the north of Germany is the province of Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony). Camp sites in Lower Saxony are spread over various regions all of which have their unusual places. Water (on the Balkan Sea coast), hills, woods and heathland; at camp sites in Lower Saxony you will camp amid great natural diversity. This is a wonderful area for walking or cycling. Additionally the area has a rich history as witnessed by the many castles. On the Baltic coast you will find beautiful old seaside resorts dating back to the beginning of beach holidays. There are plenty of charming towns in this province (such as Wolfsburg, Lingen, Meppen, Wolfenbüttel, Göttingen, Bremerhaven, Oldenburg, Hanover and Bremen) meaning that you will never have to go far to enjoy a pavement café, a museum visit or simply just to walk around.
The Lüneburger Heide, the largest continuous heathland in Europe is located in northern Germany. It is a popular destination for camping in Germany. When the heath is in full bloom it looks as though the rolling hills are covered by a large purple blanket with here and there coloured bunches of wild flowers in bloom. The small town of Celle is right on the edge and has a well preserved centre full of half timbered merchants’ houses and a huge castle surrounded by a moat. The resplendent city of Hamburg with its centuries old warehouses and harbours on the River Elbe is just over the border east of Lower Saxony.
