Situated on the banks of the Loire, directly opposite the city of Nevers, lies Camping de Nevers. Although the campsite is situated in the south-western part of the Bourgogne, there are fewer vineyards here. The main focus of Camping de Nevers is on the neighbouring city and the Loire river region. At night the campsite has a splendid view over the illuminated city. Situated on the A77, this is also a popular stopover campsite for holiday makers on their way to the south.
Camping spot on the water's edge
When you arrive at the campsite, you simply follow the road to the pitches, where you have a choice between pitches directly on the riverbank or a bit higher up. Camping de Nevers also offers an opportunity to rent a mobile home.
Bridge to the city
The campsite is virtually next to the bridge in the direction of Nevers. When you cross the bridge, you are in the centre of Nevers. From the campsite it is only a 750 m walk to the centrally situated Place de Republique. In Nevers you will find all facilities of a large town such as a bakery, supermarket, shops, restaurants and sidewalk cafes on town squares. These facilities are not provided by the campsite, and therefore convenient to have within walking distance.
The campsite obviously offers sanitary facilities (basic but functional) and the children will enjoy themselves on the banks of the Loire river where there is a small beach. Opposite the campsite you can make use of the public swimming pool and surrounding sandy beach with food and drink kiosks.

Being out of season meant there was plenty of room. A lovely pitch overlooking the Loire. Within easy walking distance of the town.
We stayed just one night and were amazed that a site had such a dangerous entrance, if you are the second in line waiting to get in you block the road and have to move on - getting back is a nightmare since you have to find somewhere to turn back towards the site. If you have to pitch in the lower area there are limited electric points. Judging by the high banking it looks like this area would be at risk of flood - and we saw the worst flooding in many years on our way down when Orleans was cut off completely.
A practical riverside campsite opposite Nevers. We were tenting so had a pitch on the lower level which was ok. Nevers is well worth a visit with its beautiful churches and other buildings. Our stay was for 2 nights.
Stayed here for one night on the way home. Our tent was cut with a knife and our car keys stolen. Car was emptied of everything we own. Keys, phones, sat navs etc all also stolen. In that one night 6 tents were targeted. French police said it happens at this campsite a lot as thieves use the river to get across and get back! Do not stay here! Campsite staff didn't care at all either. We have had to have our car taken home on a transporter and are left with nothing!
Young lady on reception very nice and pleasant. View across the river lovely and just over the bridge to the town.
Downside only 2 ladies toilets open for the size of the camp site this was not enough and people were queueing for showers and washing up facilities. We felt the facilities need upgrading for a lot of money per night they are just not good enough.
The location of this site is stunning, looking out across the Loire to the town of Nevers and we enjoyed a 7 nights stay. The town is easily reached on foot and is well worth a visit. Access to the local cycle routes along the canal can be made easily from the site. The only downside for us was the lack of WiFi on site although there was free internet access for your laptop, available when reception was open.
Point to note; the chemical toilet is co-located at the motorhome waste point along with fresh water taps. Although clearly marked too often people were disposing of their toilet waste down the wrong drain then using the fresh water tap to rinse their toilet canister. Clearly there is a risk of cross contamination. The owners are aware of the problem but are depending on campers reading the signs.
Very awkward entrance to site. Barrier quite near the road so unit could easily be still on road when car adjacent to barrier.
Must really be entered downhill from main road.
Need to register at site office on left before the barrier. Not at all the safest set up for getting on/into a site.
Some pitches deeply littered with dry leaves.
