In Central France, in the western part of the picturesque hilly Burgundy winelands, lies Camping Merry-sur-Yonne. The idyllic Yonne river flows near the campsite, as does the Nivernais Canal. The campsite is an oasis of tranquillity in a beautiful region with vineyards, castles and attractive villages.

We love this campsite. Some sites are quiet and impersonal and we are ready to move on after one night. Others are small with a friendly ambience and this is one of them. We discovered this picturesque hidden part of France by accident a few years ago and have been coming back to this site ever since. This year, because our small motorhome has gone to the great campsite in the sky, we decided to book a gite for a few days. The six very reasonably priced apartments in the block are small and basic, with two toilets, two showers and a large bathroom. There was only one other couple, so after we agreed who was going to use which toilet and shower, it was almost as convenient as en-suite. Part- owner of the site, David, was really helpful. He provided a fridge and offered a kettle and cups. Bed linen and towels are provided and breakfast can be ordered if required. The mini-market which is open every day is well stocked at reasonable prices, the bar/restaurant is excellent and all the staff are friendly and helpful. All in all, this campsite, in an area that offers excellent walking and cycling on quiet roads and a paved canal towpath which runs from Auxerre to Clamecy, provided us with another great holiday within one day\'s travelling from Calais, which is missed by most holiday makers on their mad rush down to the Cote d\'Azur. We will definitely return next year, hopefully with our recently acquired small caravan.

Very friendly staff. Shop was well stocked. The restaurant was over priced for the quality of food. Pitches not private. The separate bathrooms with sink, shower and toilet were a good idea.
