Camping de Châlons-en-Champagne ****

Aquadis Loisirs
General information

Camping de Châlons-en-Champagne is situated in a green suburb of the town of the same name, approx. 2.5 km from the centre. This campsite is a good base for visiting the town and the Champagne region and is situated next to a fish pond. The grounds are well-tended and offer camping pitches on grass or hardened surfaces with shade trees and occasionally separated by hedges.

On a separate section of the grounds are some 10 static caravans available for rent. There are hardened sites for campers and there is a service station. The facilities are modest and are mainly used by overnight guests.

Centre of champagne

Châlons-en-Champagne is the centre of the champagne production in the vineyards around the town. The campsite is a convenient base for visiting the town and the surrounding vineyards.

Sport and games

The campsite is mainly frequented by people who visit the vineyards and wine cellars of the Champagne. The campsite is also popular with travellers on their way to the south. The facilities are therefore limited; there is no swimming pool or lake to swim in.

However, there is a mini-golf course, tennis court, petanque pitch, children playground, snack bar and convenience store. Fishing in the lake is allowed. The nearest supermarket is 200 m away.

Camp site is dated. Relatively easy to get find. You have to drive through town but the approach roads are ok. I pull a tag axle. Well spaced, good sized flat pitches. Many on gravel. Some of the water standpipes are missing. Toilets are old but functional. Large shopping complex within a mile.

We used this site as an overnight halt en route back to Calais. I am glad we did not stay for longer.
There is a choice of grass or hardstanding pitches and all are of a decent size.
There are two toilet blacks but travelling so late in the season the larger one was closed so we used the one in the main building. I first stayed here about 30 years ago and my goodness how things have changed. The site is much larger than I remember but the sanitary facilities have deteriorated. It looked like an attempt had been made to upgrade the shower areas by cladding the walls with laminated board but the old walls could be seen behind. I dread to think how many insects must live there. The floors of the toilet and washing areas were dreadful. They didn’t need a mop they needed a scraper.
The whole site just felt uncared for. Which is a great pity because with some effort and a little bit of money it could be so much better. Also, a number of seasonal workers appeared to be living in the bungalows. They did not disturb us in anyway but it did change the ambience of the site.
We will avoid in the future but if you can’t (as we couldn’t) then be prepared to use your on-board facilities.

This site is good for a night stop only. Pitches are a good size mostly stoned which is good if its wet. The area that lets it down is the toilet blocks. They need a complete refurb.

Good 1 night stopover. Good hard pitches. Toilet/shower facilities need updating.
I feel the site is not keeping up with standards expected. Bins overflowing and toilet/shower facilities were not clean..

A lovely little campsite, the staff have recently taken over and are extremely helpful (English Spanish and French spoken). The site is well positioned, within walking distance to Chàlons, with an alternative cycle path along the canal. A boulangerie, just around the corner and Carrefour 5 minutes walk away. We planned for two nights and stayed for three, we will definitely be returning.

Good sized pitches some with hardstanding. Sanitary facilities are old and in need of updating but were functional. Quite close to town and Carrefour and a large shopping centre is closeby.

a very good site for stop over night and longer. bus stop just outside the site with regular buses to the interesting Chalons 10 mins away. very helpful staff. as previously reviewed the toilet block is old but was incredibly clean and has all the facilities you need. wifi is expensive but the tennis made up for the cost. yes the site is in a housing estate but its worth ignoring that for its convenient location and oasis of greenery provided.

E mailed first to reserve a disabled pitch they requested a deposit which we sent 10 days before which only arrived when we did, given key to disabled facilities which were very good . EXCELLENT WELCOMING STAFF. Clean toilet facilities with hot water showers but a little dated. A little behind on ground works probably due to weather. Large supermarket nearby. Short stop this time but could stay happily for a longer period to explore the area.

We ventured to this site with a view to a one night stop-over (coming back up from the south of France in our motorhome) - but were sufficiently happy to make it a 2 night stop. However we thought the 4 star rating ought to be 3. Easy to find even with road work closures nearby. Very pleasant staff in reception - good command of English. A good sized (Blue Badge) pitch close to the toilet/shower block. Toilets and showers rather tired but cleaned regularly. Waste bins also cleared as and when full. A good dog walking area around the \"pond\". Ground management (ie grass cutting and hedge trimming) was lacking at the time of our visit but - all in all - a pleasant and useful short stay site.
