I'd come to Charleville for its International Puppetry Festival; and was delighted to find a campsite so close to the town, across a nearby footbridge. Booking in was efficient and friendly. However, the state of the toilets, despite the best efforts of the cleaning staff, was frankly appalling; so much so, that I lodge a complaint, both with reception and the tourist office; I also felt compelled to write to the deputy mayor with responsibility for Arts and International Affairs. This the only time I have ever done this. As of yet I have to receive more than an automated acknowledgement. All the urinals were out of service; lights either not functioning or in need of service; hot water erratic; one toilet seat mended with gaffer tape. Maintenance is the responsibility of the municipality, but reception said when they report issues, it gets bogged down in bureaucracy. it feels like nothing has been done for a long time.
