In the northeastern part of France, just south of the Belgian border, lies the Champagne-Ardenne region. Are you looking to combine camping among the vineyards with a pitch at a very large lake? In that case, set up your caravan at Camping Lac d'Orient. This campsite is located directly on the lake of the same name. The water is surrounded by a gorgeous forested nature area.

This Campsite is listed as 4*, however we feel it only warrants 3 at best. The Facilities block while clean had many cubicles locked in the latter part of July. This site was FULL with many families which is great but the facilities MUST be geared up to cater for the volume. Additionally there was only hot water very early in the morning. The rest of the day and evening it was cold. It couldn\'t even be described as tepid. We attended the bar on our first evening. Notices said to order at the bar but the entrance to the bar/restaurant was barred and there was no sign of any staff. We waited 10 minutes then went back to our van unimpressed. We would have been happy to wait had there been signs of anyone who cared. There were others either already drinking or prepared to wait. Overall we were only booked in 2 nights and were more than happy to leave.

Stayed at this site several times now, not least because it is perfectly distanced for the run to or from Calais. The pitches are big with good water, drainage and EHU. Toilets are very clean. The pool is very good and the bar staff are great. My suggestion to the owners would be to expand the restaurant menu somewhat. France is famed for its cuisine, yet the restaurant just offered standard tourist fare.
