The campsite is a mile or so from the ferry terminal and quite easy to find. Approach is via a side road off the main highway (quite a sharp turn) and through a residential sector which backs onto a commercial nursery. There is a Reception area and caravans must stop at the barrier to book in. We had pre-booked, so the formalities were quickly sorted. Finding the pitch was relatively simple, with groups of pitches being separated by hedges. The numbering boards were not all visible so I would advise a quick walk up to identify which section you are going into. We have stayed here a few times before and most of these stays found that our allocated pitch had been taken by someone else, so had to go back to Reception for clarification. We were told to take another empty pitch. As we only stayed overnight, this did not really matter in the low seasons we tend to go. It could be a problem in high season of course. The pitches are grassed and were quite worn down to the bare soil. When it rained (as it did) this meant mud was a problem. However, it was not too bad as the soil had a high sand content and dried out quite quickly. Facilities are very good: toilets and showers were well-appointed and clean. Plenty of hot water and places for dishwashing meant that you don’t have to walk too far to get a shower. Electric hookup and water points are positioned for every two pitches, which is good sense and each point has a grey water drain. The water tap has a press and hold system. A chemical toilet point is located in the main toilet block. The first couple of times we visited this site, we never looked around but this time we were able to see just what was available for a longer stay. We were very pleasantly surprised. Strandpark is a very-well run family-orientated site, on the coast and is actually a couple of hundred yards from the extremely long and pleasant beach. There is a large children’s play area, adjacent to a splash pool. There is a restaurant and bar offering a wide selection of meals and an outdoor sitting area. Walking through the large site (chalets and holiday homes onsite can be rented) we followed the signs to the beach and walked through the dunes. The beach is wide, very sandy and clearly well looked after. There are a number of restaurants/bars within easy reach and were all busy when we visited.

I stayed for one night in May and wanted to go back for longer. I’m glad I did. While the pitch was a bit waterlogged, I was well-placed for the toilets/showers, which were very clean. Some of the individual toilets were closed for the time of year, but the ensuite facilities were warm and clean. I couldn’t fault the staff at reception, very welcoming, and the staff in the bar/restaurant were very attentive. The menu was limited, but I enjoyed my burger. The campsite is well positioned near the cycle path and the dunes/beach, and I walked my dog along both when the weather was fine. Excellent value for money, I’d recommend it.
