Camping La Rosaleda

This is mainly a long-stay site, like many another strewn along the Costas. We paused there over Christmas and New Year, at the ACSI Card price including 4 kWh of electricity plus a very modest cost for more. The WiFi was good at first, until it stopped working altogether after a week. Reception expressed surprise but did nothing! The facilities are old but functional, with a good laundry and book swap, though the washing up sinks have to share a single hot tap (bring your own bowl)! Locks on the toilet and shower doorknobs were loose and ill-fitting, leading to one of us being locked in for a few stressful minutes. There was only one place to fill a motorhome with water and that was at the very top of the site next to the car wash. The steep hillside and unlevelled terraces meant that everybody needed ramps, airbags or jacks. Pitches are generally too small and often overhung by trees – so much so that we had to change the allocated pitch and find our own, as many others were doing. The expensive a la carte restaurant actually closed over Christmas, and the site supermarket remained shut throughout our 11-day stay. The nearest supermarket is Dia, about 1 km towards Conil, and the beach is about 2 km away. There is very good cycling from the site, with separate bike paths starting just outside the gate: left for Conil, Cape Trafalgar and beyond to Canos de Meca (about 20 km each way), as well as riding in the other direction past Conil lighthouse to Chiclana. Conil de la Frontera itself is a nice town with the impressive Cathedral Santa Catalina (Saint Catherine of the Wheel), part of a 1567 Franciscan monastery whose cloisters now house the town hall. It was a comfortable retreat over Xmas and New Year but we did feel like intruders, tucked among the many North Europeans, in residence for months, who barely spoke to us (despite our fluency in French and German).

This was a really nice site to stay at. We intended to have a couple of nights but stayed for five! The staff were friendly and helpful (one lady printed a form that I needed to sign for me) with very good facilities. The site is a little out of town, 10 minutes by bike and a choice of good beaches are available in town or coves that we accessed by bike. We liked Conil a lot and would definitely stay here again.

Excellent site for short or long stay. Can't rate highly enough. Very friendly and hard working staff. Site very well organised, spotlessly clean, with plenty of space, great facilities for water, grey water, chemical loo etc, good surfaces for driving, and large pitches. Very clean and plentiful loos and hot powerful showers. There's a gym, a sauna, massage, pool, outdoor fitness course, games. We didn't use any of these and don't have young children so haven't scored these items. A couple of things that could be improved: There's a restaurant which sadly we could not go to, even to eat outside as dogs are not allowed even in the vicinity. This was frustrating as we have a quiet well behaved dog. It's a good 20 minute walk to the beach.
