The four-star camping site Stella Maris lies just across the border from Slovenia, in the westernmost point of Croatia. This large family camping site was fully renovated in 2018, which included the addition of a new, large outdoor swimming pool. The adjacent tennis park hosts the annual Croatian Open Umag, a famous tournament that attracts many visitors. A special train takes you to the city of Umag, two kilometres away.
Camping in pine forest
Campers choose their own pitch on this large site, even if they have made a reservation. The site is well maintained and organised, with gravel pitches along straight roads. The majority of the camping pitches are located in pine forest. The pitches are clearly marked and separated by newly planted vegetation. The pine trees offer little protection from the wind, but do provide shade. Modern, deluxe mobile homes are available for rent on a separate section of the camping site.
New swimming pool
At the edge of the camping site, there is a large swimming pool with a toddler pool. The pool is surrounded by a sunbathing deck with loungers, but you have to pay to use them. There is also a sunbathing lawn, where you can laze on the grass (no charge). The restaurant is close to the swimming pool. There is a bar and covered terrace, which offer a beautiful view of the swimming pool.
On foot to the beach
The camping site Stella Maris is roughly a 300-metre walk from the Adriatic coast. You can walk there directly by using a tunnel beneath the roadway. Stella Maris Beach is a rather narrow, sandy beach along a small bay. The water is clean and stays shallow for some distance, so it is really well suited for young children.

The second time we are in this camp, compared to two years ago, we can see that a lot has been arranged (new reception, swimming pool, new pitches sprinkled with pebbles, wifi works on all pitches, redecorated adventure park). The part that was once neglected is now the most exclusive, with a swimming pool and lux lots for trailers and motorhomes. Still, the price surprised us a little, almost 50% more expensive than it was two years ago, and there is no possibility of a discount on the camping card in the high season. All in all, a lot of improvements, but I think the price is quite high considering that the campsite is not near the beach.
Great campsite. It is huge 400+ pitches. Very well run and managed. Sanitary first rate, relay good showers. Swimming pool also very good.
The site good facilities ileitis - extensive playground for the children, on-site bread shop and fruit/wines, supermarket just across the road, ATM machine by reception.
For children there is an activities program.
4 nights and came back k for a further 3 later on our holiday. We will be back again next year.
All right. Toilets arranged. kind staff. a great new pool. proximity to the beach.
Reception - Extremely drunk operator - did not know or have vacancies. After booking, we were given a place where even our caravan was not afraid. Then we waited three times for a change in the place, and after an awkward wait and walk, we finally found a place to sit down at least. Based on the reservation, we requested the option of Satellite and Sea View and did not fully inform us that this option is not available here. Of course the beach is about 2km, about 10 minutes, and it is with the fact that even things are secured in the caravan electronically just for us it means to keep guarding the caravan. Because 2km run is impossible.
So this is probably no holiday and recreation.
That is why we evaluate it and remind others to make a lot of thought or come here at all.
Camp is nice and well organised, with nice reception but a bit noisy, especially on piches which are near main road . Toilette are maintained, cleaness is satisfatory. WIFI is doing only on reception. I think camp with 3 stars should have a WIFI around complete camp area. Beach is across main road, cca. 5 minutes walking, with beautiful sea.
