This is one of the best sites we have visited in Denmark over our 6 week tour! Extremely friendly and helpful owners who have really made a beautiful setting. We were offered a few different pitches , on well tended grass. The toilet block was very well designed and there was an amazing kitchen area for those who needed it, as well as seating inside and out for dining. It is a a few minutes walk to the beautiful Fredericksborg castle and lake, and the small town of Hillerod, with its\' many shops ad restaurants.
We have been caravanning for over 25 years and have had a holiday in western Europe each year. Since retiring eleven years ago we have spent about eight weeks per holiday ( sometimes twice in a year) touring. We have been from Portugal in the west to Czech Republic in the east, from Scotland in the north to Slovenia in the south.
This site is the nicest ever in every way. The owner and partner make you feel like friends, nothing is too much trouble. The shower block is immaculate. There is the most amazing large kitchen area for the use of campers. It is fully equipped with everything you could ever need, easily as good as your own kitchen at home.
The area around the reception and shower complex has wooden garden tables and chairs surrounded by a profusion of wonderful plants - olive trees, lemon trees, bushes and shrubs as well as many fresh herbs which campers are welcome to help themselves to.
Of an evening instead of the usual electric lamps there are lovely paraffin lamps which take me back to my childhood. Around the reception block itself are candles which give a cosy atmosphere.
We think that this site is worth every penny. It is also perfectly situated to catch the train to Copenhagen and to Helsingør. The rest of Sealand is worth seeing too. We would recommend this site without reservation. I\'m not a person who writes lots of reviews but I am so impressed with this site I simply had to review Hillerød Camping because it is such a delightful site.
All praises from others are correct. On the camping everything is prima, clean, well maintained or new, well fascilitated. You\'re in the middle of Hillerød, close to everything you could need, but it feels rural.
The 5th site on our motorhome tour of Denmark in June 2017 and, as it turned out, our last site. We wanted primarily to visit Copenhagen and looked at the sites near there. However the site manager at Guldager Camping had recommend Hillerød Camping as another ‘Små Pladser’ or Small Site on the DK-CAMP website.
We had a very friendly welcome from Annette Quist, the site owner and manager, with lots of information about the site and local area. We were offered a number of pitches and chose to pitch on ‘The Prarie’, a large ‘field’ just to one side of the main site. At the time there were just a couple of caravans on the field. Annette cares deeply about the site and guided us to a spot to pitch - she doesn't just let you pitch anywhere! We returned from one day out to find the entire field full of motorhomes - a Dutch club on tour, apparently. However even going from 3 to over 20 vans on site we didn't feel as if people were on top of us.
The Prarie has a new toilet block (toilet and sink) so there is no need to walk to the main site just for the loo. The site has an amazing range of facilities; the kitchen area has everything you need to cook a 3-course meal whilst outside there are tables and chairs on a patio area with lots of plants in pots and even a fountain. The showers are in the main site next to the reception area and immaculate - site rules are that you leave your shoes at the door. The shop in reception is well stocked with quite a range of products going well beyond just ‘camping’ things. In the evening someone came around and lit candles around the site, a lovely touch - and we presume an example of Danish ‘Hygge’!
The site is ideally located in the town. It’s just a short walk into Hillerød with it’s many shops. On our first night we took the bikes for a ride, found Frederiksborg Castle, cycled round it and through the Slotspark behind it, a fantastic first night. It’s a 20 minute walk to the railway station and about an hour into Copenhagen where we spent a fascinating day. From the site we also visited Helsingør to see the Kronberg (castle, Hamlet and all that) and the Danish Museum of Science and Technology, which I must put in a plug for as it was almost empty but absolutely fascinating. Further down the cost is the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art which is absolutely worth a visit.
Of the many lovely sites we stayed in when visiting Denmark this was our favourite.
Despite being a short walk into Hillerod the site has a rural feel. It is a family run site and run very well, It has a great kitchen, library and lounge areas. Candles are lit all over the placer in the evening giving it really nice atmosphere. The weather was poor so we opted for a small cabin instead of our tent and it was good. The Castle is the national museum of Denmark and a really good visit especially on a wet day in summer.
