Centraal in het gelijknamige dorp ligt het ruim opgezette Campingpark Gartow. Het dorp ligt in een zeer bosrijke omgeving. De bossen rondom Gartow hebben we te danken aan de adellijke familie Von Bernstorff, die ze in de achttiende en negentiende eeuw liet aanplanten. De camping grenst aan deze bossen en ook op het terrein zelf staan er veel bomen. Deze zorgen voor een gemoedelijke sfeer en veel schaduw. De verschillende knusse veldjes zijn door bomenrijen van elkaar gescheiden, maar de afzonderlijke staanplaatsen zijn niet afgebakend.
