We visited in low season and some of the facilities were not operational, or limited. The sanitary block is heated and one of the cleanest and brightest we\'ve seen. The swimming pool is heated but only open 10.00-17.00. That is the time of day we tend to be out exploring the area. There is also the river for swimming but it was a little cold in October - managed it just once. Great locality for cycle rides, walks and visiting beautiful villages, castles and gardens. Friendly staff speak English and are helpful with queries about the area.
Our 2nd visit to the site, it is still as lovely as when we visited in 2015. They have refurbished the swimming pool area and this is really lovely. Pitches are large, grass, level and lots of choice - shade, partial shade, no shade, near the stream, near the open field space. Would recommend again. I would still advise everyone to use the far entrance. Drive past the first entrance sign and in 2Km turn left - the junction is on a bend as you approach some houses so slow down or you might miss it. Go over the narrow bridge and then turn left down the single track road/cycle path.
This site is idyllic the pitches are grass, large and flat and it's very quiet. t is set next to a small stream which would act as a lovely river swimming in safety. The swimming pool was heated and lovely even in april, you swim looking at the castle I'm castelnaud! The sanitary facilities were spotless, heated and brilliant. It's 800m walk or cycle down a cycle path to the village and then you can also cycle easily to la roque and beynac. For the access... If you are a motorhome or towing a caravan you need to go to the far entrance... Go over the river bridge into castelnaud follow road around past the car park on the left, the first entrance to get to site is 200m on your left but this is a narrow road (actually a cycle path) keep going down the road and take your first left when you get in the village. You pass over a narrow bridge, it's 2.5m wide then you turn left onto the cycle path... You drive on the cycle path to the site. It's single lane but wide enough to drive down. Campsite is lovely and we would recommend, we were going to stay 1 night ended up 4. Acsi I think you need to update directions as a caravan turning down the first entrance will get stuck.
Run by the family, all of whom are exceptionally friendly & helpful. WiFi is around reception and is free and unlimited. Bar prices are very reasonable, unlike some sites. Our pitch, in shade under trees, was ample in size for a 7.4m 'van and awning. Would stay here again if in Dordogne region.
Beautifully located site 800 metres from the little town of Castelnaud with it's fairy-tale castle. The restaurant is superb - the Confit de Canard to die for! Gripes? Most service is excellent with the exception of one young guy in particular who was very rude. Wifi was only available in the central courtyard - WHICH IS A PAIN. And in the 9 days we were there, I didn't see a single lawnmower and the pitches needed cutting. And although the pool is lovely, it was dominated by teenagers with massive inflatables, and although I know they were having a good time, their behaviour was unruly and at time unsafe. There is no supervision in the pool area at all.
On the good side, the pool, the food, the location, the surroundings, and the weekly rock concert - all excellent, as was the excitement of counting the number of walnuts that fell on our van during each night lol! Probably wouldn't go back but that's more because there are hundreds of sites to choose from in this area.
This site was lovely... once we found it! The co-ordinates given in the ACSI book, and here are wrong and took us up a steep hill on a narrow track!! The correct co-ordinates are Lat44:48:22N Long1:09:32E
I pointed this out to the lady on reception and she compared the those in the book to the ones in their brochure... the same! But the ones on the site map were different!
Anyway, our stay was delightful. The only fault being that the sanitary blocks, whilst spotless, would be insufficient if the site were full. Otherwise it was an excellent site.
