This was only intended as an overnight on route to Spain. It\'s not worth the effort. Approach to site is along a narrow road with vehicles parked on one side. Numerous wrecked caravans around the site. WIFI ! We were within 100m of site reception and could not get any signal, shared toilets, very cold showers, did not look at all inviting used our own facilities. I cannot see how this site warrants 3 star, I have seen far better 2 star sites.
This evaluation has been obtained by our inspector from a questionnaire at the camp site.
Super location at the foot of this walled town. The town has fabulous restaurants and the tour of the ramparts is really interesting. The site itself has a lot of permanent residents it appears, the toilet block is not great but the showers are blissfully hot and they were obviously being attended to for the summer when I was there. Free wifi is great, but being down in the basin makes satellite reception difficult. Enjoyed this site in November as well as March.
This site could be far better than it actually is. We travelled in March and there were only two toilets available for both men & women together. Same with the showers. Only three for the entire site. Cleanliness is not up to CC or C&CC standards, but was adequate. Saving grace is the location (oh and the wifi, which was good). In the shadow of the walls of Montreuil and although it\'s uphill, its 5 to 10 minutes into the town centre. Never much work going on either cleaning or tending to the grass, so it didn\'t inspire confidence. All in all an adequate site.
A lovely quiet site tucked away on the edge of Montreuil, a delightful and interesting walled town. Easy walk uphill into town. Good overnight spot close to Boulogne and Calais, but worth a couple of nights to explore the town and pick up duty free wine for Wine Society members! Not many spare pitches in mid September.
A fantastic site in close proximity to the town of Montreuil-Sur-Mer. The staff were very helpful and approachable (lives on site).
The pitches are very large with the option of electric hook up.
The toilets are just that, toilets but the showers make up for it. Powerful and very hot.
Most days a van drives around the site with a good selection of bakery products.
All in all this is a very good site in a good location. I would not hesitate to recommend this site.....
Pretty campsite in a great location, just below the town ramparts. Staff friendly and very helpful. Let down by toilets and showers that need updating.
The terraced plot was of a good size and easily accommodated out 4-man tent with a dedicated car-parking spot in front of the plot.
The toilet facilities were basic with no toilet seats and no paper. There is a separate area for washing dishes.
Reception sells drinks (including beer) and ice cream but the owner is not always present. The owner speaks limited English. Wi-fi only works close to the reception building.
There is a Carrefour supermarket nearby and the town has a grocers that sells a good variety of fresh vegetables.
Camping la Fontaine des Clercs is set out in terraces directly under the walls of the town on Montreuil. This site is open all year. There are about 76 pitches on a mix of grass and hard standing. They vary in size from small for tents to quite generous for caravans and many sizes in between. There are two sections of hard standing pitches either side of the Reception building with level access all other pitches are of quite steep terraces working their way up from Reception to the fortified walls of the town. Some of the pitches are taken up with permanent caravans. Electric points are rated at 10amps and have CEE17 European blue connectors. On some pitches it may be necessary to run your electric lead across a site road. Water points are dotted around the site. There are two toilet blocks. The one next to Reception is adequate and clean with seatless toilets and no paper provided, however it could do with a makeover to bring it up-to-date. There is no onsite shop but the town is only a relatively short walk away. Reception has limited opening hours and the form seems to be to select a pitch and go back later to book in. The site has free WiFi, we were able to pick it up in the van but we were near reception. Date of visit early October 2010.
The delightful walled town of Montreuil is a few minutes walk from the campsite and is well worth a visit. The coast is not far away either. For shopping there is a supermarket on the ring road and of course any number of individual shops in the town.
We have stayed in this campsite on several occasions in a motorhome. Yes, the facilities are dated and could do with a good clean but is so rustically French. It is not a campsite where children will have lots to do to entertain themselves but there is so much to do in the surrounding countryside and the nearby town. We tend to stay at the beginning and end of each holiday as it is so convenient to the ferry crossing ports. The proprietor is so helpful and friendly even if you have to know the slightly strange office hours. The fresh bread delivered by van every morning except Weds is delicious. Do try it!!
