Camping de la Gères is a quietly located and child-friendly family camping site on the outskirts of the town of Surgères. With some fifty pitches, both camping pitches and rental accommodation, it is a rather small camping site. Yet all facilities are neatly and well maintained. There is a playground for children and in peak season activities are organised regularly.
Well-maintained camping site
The entire terrain of Camping de la Gères looks well maintained and cared for. The camping site has some fifty pitches, divided between free camping pitches and rental accommodation (chalets, mobile homes and lodge tents). The camping pitches are located on a grass surface and are separated from each other by small hedges. Therefore, each camper has his own spot with ample privacy.
Entertainment for all
Although the camping site is quietly located and relatively small, it is also very suitable for families with young children. They amuse themselves in the playground or (in peak season) with one of the activities organised by the entertainment team. They can do horseback riding or take part in bingo. Entertainment is also organised in the heated outdoor swimming pool. It is attractively located in the sun with a sunbathing lawn. You will find a few beach chairs here.
Everything within walking distance
After your swim, you can get dry on the camping site terrace whilst enjoying a refreshing drink or an ice cream. You can also get a quick meal from the camping snack bar, but you have to leave the camping site to do your shopping. Fortunately, all amenities are literally around the corner, because you will find a bakery and a supermarket just down the road.

The ACSI guide book and app showed that this site was open until 2/11. We arrived on 15/10 to find that it had closed. A woman at reception said she was ‘desole’ and when I went back to reception to establish that the whole site, rather than just the reception, was closed, in spite of the advertised dates (still being advertised at the gates!) a man told me that there was a problem with water so they had closed! No apology, no assistance with finding an alternative site - absolutely no service or customer care! Would not recommend!
Good stopover site with well maintained toilets and showers with an easy walk into an interesting town also has a good bakery and supermarket on the doorstep.
We have been camping for more than 40 years in France, and of all the camp sites we stayed on this site is by far the best for the following reasons.
1) The friendly and obliging staff.
2) The Cleanliness of the sanitary buildings.
3) The Location, Just a short walk to the Super market, or to the village,
4) The interesting buildings in the village.
5) We like to take our holidays in the low season and this reduces the amount of campsites that remain open and we found the weather this year (mid September to mid October) was very good
6) The value for money
7) free Wi-Fi. through out the campsite.
Small ex - municipal site. Very nice owners with good English. Fairly new sh/wc, clean with hot water, but remember the code to open the door! Some pitches small and long lead needed for electric. We were given a key to the back gate leading to sports field/park and path to the Chateau /church/town. Good off-lead dog walking opportunity, but not for a distance.
A small site with very clean heated toilet facilities, no toilet paper. There is access to a riverside walk that leads into town, via the excellent chateau grounds if you prefer. There is a supermarket and boulangerie within 5 minutes walk. It is a pleasant town with good restaurants and bars. We stayed here twice in October and November 2015, going South and coming North, and will use it again.
Really enjoyed our one night stay, English is spoken in reception , super market less than 5 minutes walk ( others 5 minutes drive) pitches large and toilets / showers good. location good with interesting walks.
New owners busy making improvements - staff very friendly and helpful, pitches were still wet from winter so parking on the access roads necessary. A new facilities block still to be fully completed which was clean. Fuel and supermarket close also nice Boulanger at the end of the road - convenient for lots of touring oportunities
we stayed here for 3 nights (short break) staff very friendly, pitch was fine. Appears to be a new facilities block which was clean. Price was excellent compared to some others we have been to. Value for Money. Would return.
