Camping La Venise Verte is situated in a quiet spot on the Sèvre Niortaise river, some 1.5 km from the town of Coulon. You are genuinely camping on a location amidst the interesting Marais Poitevin natural area. There are a large number of navigable canals here. Pity to miss out on a boat trip here...
Camping amidst green
The camping site is wonderfully quiet and you can hear the birds from sunrise. The spacious pitches are laid out in rows on a lawn, along paved roads. There are a number of medium-sized deciduous trees that provide shade. Low vegetation and shrubs provide demarcation. Want to hire something? You can choose between a mobile home and a chalet.
Swimming and sunbathing
The swimming pool (open in peak season only) is eminently suitable for playing and cooling down. There is a toddler pool for the little ones. You will find some loungers here and there. Ideal for working on that tan. A fence surrounds the decorative tiles of the pool and a there is a lot of vegetation.
Children can play to their heart's content in the playground, at the table tennis tables, on the jeu de boules pitch and the beach volleyball field. In high season entertainment is offered including an excursion programme and guided walking tours. Bicycles (also routes) and canoes can be rented at the reception. From the camping site there are numerous cycling options.
At the reception you can buy a few regional products as well as daily fresh bread. It is only a 7 km car ride to a supermarket. Don't feel like cooking? The camping restaurant has a small menu and a bar with a terrace where you can enjoy delicious regional dishes.

I was extremely disappointed on arrival to find tiny pitches crammed together with virtually no screening between... an otherwise pleasant site in a beautiful area of France is marred by a layout clearly designed to maximise revenue for site owners at the expense of paying guests.
Campsite was lovely, with huge well maintained pitches. The family who ran the site as well as the other staff were lovely and friendly. There was a lovely vibe about the site, it was recommended to me and I will visit again and recommend it to others.
This was going to be an overnight stop but we stayed for 4 days..we immediately found this site to be so relaxing and in a beautiful location. The family who run this site are so friendly and helpful and it was so nice to have really good banter when France were playing in the World Cup..We will definitely return and stay longer
Delightful campsite in a lovely undiscovered area. Staff were very helpful and the plot and facilities were excellent. Campsite restaurant looked lovely but is closed one night a week (although a mobile pizza van comes on that night). However, we chose to eat at the restaurant L'Auberge de L'Ecluse which is just down the road and we were exceptionally pleased with our meal. Definitely a campsite to return to.
The 1 bedroom cocoon we had was fantastic. Just perfect for the 2 of us. It was very clean and well equipped. We liked the kettle. The free Wi-Fi was really useful as we still had business matters to attend to in the UK. Loved the surrounding areas, canals etc. 10 out of 10 for the wonderful receptionist/owner who was very helpful.
We arrived after reception was closed, owners let us in, were helpful and friendly. An excellent stay (2 weeks)
Excellent facilities - showers/toilets, pool, pitch. Generally a friendly site, a lot of English campers. Brilliant cycling routes. Definitely will return
We stopped off here after the recommendation of another couple we met while we were away. In practice is was rather "end of season" with only 3/4 other units on the site and the restaurant and pool were closed. However the welcome was fine and the pitch had electrics, water and drainage on it and was a good size. The facilities were rather dated however they were clean while we were there. Wifi was available near reception however the connection was open. The site itself was lovely.
Coulon was an interesting place (& an easy walk from the site) however it felt even more end of season and many places were actually closed. Market excepted I would not depend on Coulon for shopping. We enjoyed a walk around the canals and the area was interesting enough.
Lovely campsite with large pitches and lovely surroundings with trees for shade. Toilets and shower blocks spotless. Pool gets late afternoon sun and when we were there it wasn't crowded. so a lovely place to relax and unwind. Restaurant/bar not open. Fresh vegetables on sale on Tuesday mornings and bread and croissants can be ordered at reception. Very friendly staff (with good English) and a perfect location for cycling and canoeing (landing stage across the road from the campsite).. We had a great time and highly recommend this site
A mid-sized campsite on the outskirts of Coulon, which is the centre of the "Marais-Poitevin" network of canals. Pitches are flat and of a reasonable size.
The toilet/shower block is quite modern, but curiously designed in that, for example, the washbasins in the toilet area - used by both sexes - are adjacent to the urinals. The showers are accessed by a separate door from the outside, which is kept open, despite the cool conditions on the morning we were there.
There is a restaurant but it was closed during our visit, but there are others within walking distance in the town.
This campsite scores very highly for: location, toilet facilities, emplacement space and availability of WiFi. It is ideally placed for exploring the Marais Poitevin by bike on dedicated cycle-ways, or by car. It is also within walking distance of very good restaurants and cafe/bars. We'll be back!
