Campingplatz Schacherhorn is situated in a stunning location in the south of Germany: a stretch of forest along the Bodensee. You will be camping at the edge of a nature reserve, which is a breeding area for various species of birds. Fantastic biking and hikes in the area. The long, thin shape of the camping site means that you'll almost always be on the water.

Camping by the water

At Campingplatz Schachenhorn, you'll be camping among the trees and you'll always be near the water. The pitches don't have defined borders, which creates a disorganised, casual feel on the camping property. It can be fairly busy here, especially during high season. The busier it gets, the smaller the pitches become. If you are able to look past that, you will be rewarded with a stunning, panoramic view of the lake and the surrounding greenery. You can also opt to stay in one of the cosy pod cabins.

Thai cuisine

The restaurant on the camping site serves marvellous Thai dishes, but you can also drop by for some chips. There is a lively Thai buffet on every Friday during high season.

Getting active on the Bodensee

The location of the camping site is unique: right on the Bodensee and in the midst of a beautiful nature reserve. It's the perfect location to fully unwind. Please note: swimming in the water near the camping site is prohibited. This part of the reserve is a protected breeding area for birds. There are fantastic hiking and cycling options in the immediate vicinity. You can also head out onto the water by boat, canoe or pedalboard.

Expensive p.n. Charged an extra to have a shower. Shower and toilet facilities very clean. Camping/pitch area cramped. Shop and bar very expensive. Lovely lake side position, such a shame we feel ripped off, would have stayed longer but moved onto a cheaper site where our ACIS card was accepted and it was cheaper.

A lively location and beautiful walks abd access to the lake. Although busy facilities were clean while we were there bur a total rip off to have to pay everyone for a 4 minute shower. Niw to the pitches if you can call them that. ..they are horrendous. No segregation. They jyst squeeze on as many as they can and children and people are running, cycling, walking, carrying their waste over what you think is your pitch. Not good if you have a dog. Railway runs alongside but this didn\'t actually bother us. Wouldn\'t stay again even though location good but not relaxing to be on site with the cramped horrible pitches. The wooden huts they rent out looked awful. My garden shed at home looks luxurious next to these.

Stayed here with our camper and side awning for 2 nights and the lakeside pitch was beautiful. Facilities, bar and restaurant were excellent. We walked 20 mins to the next town and caught a train to Uberlingen where all the ferries around the lake leave from. As we only had a day to visit we asked the ticket man which he would recommend so we took the ferry over to Mainau Island. It was beautiful , flowers, plants, butterfly house and cafes and restaurants. Spent a full day here and got some amazing photos. I would definitely recommend and return here.

Just called here to see if we could move there from our existing site. Told that all ACSI pitches had gone, so best to call ahead. Our impression of the site was that it was on the side of the lake, but very near the water level. There has been rain recently and a number of the pitches were very muddy. The site is along the lakeside and between the lake and a railway line. I am sure that in dry weather it would be Ok. It is supposed to be near Uberlingen but that is 9 km away. The nearest town (where there is a big caravan store) is Stockach
