Visited at end of May bank holiday Monday, quite chaotic on Monday, but quietened we down after that, staff friendly, facilities quite modern and kept clean, main toilet and shower block not centrally situated. Would revisit but not on a bank holiday weekend.
The ACSI handbook said this would be open when we visited in early March, but when we turned up they were not quite ready for the touring season. Once we had got over the language barrier (very little English is spoken here) they were happy for us to stay… the only caravan in a field for 500 touring vans! The site is on a virtual island at the side of the Rhine and the bulk of the site is protected from any flood waters by a huge earth mound. Inside the mound was 2,000 static vans – clearly this is a popular retreat for working class Germans. So big it has its own fire station! Petting zoo for kids run by an enthusiastic couple. A vast bar complex was mostly shut but the front bar was open serving excellent beer at very reasonable prices. Fine for an overnight stop for a night or two, perhaps a whole week might be stretching it.
It is a pity that the staff don't speak English. It was very busy, so we had to camp 15 minutes away from the sanitary block, only a toilet was available in a container. Don't forget your entrance ticket to take a shower! We were sent back to our tent to get it... The environment is absolutely wonderful.
This was the fourth time we have stayed here, each time the site has been quiet, the staff very polite and helpful facilities on site are good and the local area ideal for eating out, shopping or walking and cycling along the rhine.
