Do you want to enjoy the sand, sea and quiet? And all of this in the shelter of a nature area? If so, go to camping Drepanos, a few km from the harbour town of Igoumenitsa, in the north-west of Greece. The camping site is situated virtually at the end of a crescent-shaped peninsula. A remarkable feature is the position of the camping site: directly along a long, slightly sloping sandy beach. So, from your tent you can walk straight onto the beach.
Shade of the eucalyptus
The surface is hard and the pitches are not demarcated. The pitches which are directly situated along the beach are more or less demarcated; these offer a wide view over the sea. From the beach you can see the ferries from and to Igoumenitsa. There are tall eucalyptus trees on the camping site.
Your fellow guests
Your camping neighbours form an international and colourful group of people who are not very demanding as far as luxury or perfect maintenance is concerned. During the weekend you will also see many Greeks from the city to spend a few peaceful days.
A swimming pool is superfluous here. From your pitch you just walk onto the beach and straight into the sea. On the (child-friendly) beach you can chill on the blue sun loungers under a white sun umbrella; an attractive colour palette with the azure sea in the background. There is also a lovely beach bar.
Fine local dishes
The much frequented restaurant (comprehensive menu) is also popular with guests from outside the camping site. From the restaurant terrace you have a view of the camping site (one side) and the sea (the other side). For many guests, good food and a relaxed atmosphere compensate the otherwise basic amenities.

Certainly our last stay on this campsite, despite Its wonderful position, reasonable facilities and free WiFi. It is badly let down by the arrogant and surly manager, who acts like the owner but does nothing to manage the few pitches available between the many permanent caravans and forgets that touring campers are his paying guests.
This manager would not allow a friend of ours (an Italian cycle-tourist on his way down via Croatia, Montenegro and Albania to the Igoumenitsa ferry) to enter the site to join us for an hour. Our friend had the courtesy to announce himself at Reception, only to be told that visitors were \'forbidden\'. When I challenged this, saying that our German neighbours in a static caravan had visitors who drove in by car the same day, the manager claimed that their visitors \'work here\', which was clearly untrue. Discrimination against cyclists? We left next day and will not return. There is plenty of space along the nearby waterfront (Drepanos Beach) to park freely overnight before or after taking the Igoumenitsa ferry, so there is no reason to tolerate and pay for such treatment.
Previously, the same manager tried to forbid me to feed kittens on the site, although the campsite dog roams around at will causing more of a nuisance.
We were planning on staying a couple of nights - but we decided to leave again after less than 30 mins and check in at one of the other camps in the area.
It did not seem like they wanted visitors. Everything seemed closed and not like they had opened after winter.
The playground was unusable - and even if they had set it up, it is only very basic at best.
The camp site looked like the final resting place for old abandoned caravans lined up perfectly to block the view of the sea. If you have an autocamper perhaps you can squeece it in.
We had a tent and were told to setup in very uncharming area. When we asked if we could take another spot we were told no without explaination. Nothing was done to make us feel comfortable.
Without doubt the worst campsite we have seen in greece. With a location like that it could have been the most beautiful - but no.
Toilets were very nice though.
We are wondering why asci waste their time on this camp. Time would be better spent on others in the area.
One of the few campsites open on this time of year in Greece. Clean toilets, nice view of the ferries heading port, also sunset. Easy 5 km cycle to city where are some nice restaurants open, especialy if you like fish. Big pitches with power and water nearby. Nice people at reception, probably we will come back in summer.
Great new toilet and shower facilities. Reception staff friendly and helpful Great to be able to cycle to Igoumenitsa.
The restaurant was poor and the reason why we left. 8 thin slices of fried courgette! Beef steak uncuttable, extremely tough. The waiter said it was because it was fresh meat, don\'t know what he meant by that as we bought really good quality fresh meat the day before in Igoumenitsa and it barbequed beautifully. My fried squid had a piece of plastic wrapping on it, the waiter said it was not in the calamari only some wrapping the chef didn\'t take off!!??!!. He was very surly and only wanted to discuss the poor meal with my husband. This restaurant spoilt our enjoyment of the campsite
What a change on our return, after 3 years. We came for a night and stayed over a week! The refurbishment of the toilet/shower blocks was actually finished during our stay and they are excellent, with plenty of hot water and cleaned every day. Free WiFi worked over much of the site. Shop and restaurant opened on 1st May. Washing machine available. Staff very helpful.
The site is ideally placed on a good long beach. Convenient for ferries to Italy, or just across to Corfu. Easy cycle path (5 km) into the town and port of Igoumenitsa, with plenty of cafes and shops.
Price with ACSI Card very reasonable.
