Oasi Park Falconara is located at the southern end of the island of Sicily, five kilometres from the Vendicari nature reserve. This small, basic camping site is frequently visited by by travelling camper van tourists. If you like, the friendly camping site owner will take you to the pebble beach, just 1.5 kilometres away, by shuttle bus. The bus that stops in front of the camping site also travels to the baroque city of Noto.
Basic camper van pitches
The small (0.5 hectare), well-organised camping site Oasi Park Falconara features 45 touring pitches and 10 pitches for camper vans. The borders for the pitches have been created with young shrubs and citrus trees, which provide some shade. Camping pitches vary in size from 42-100 m2 and are perfect for tents. The camping site has simple and clean sanitary facilities. There is some playground equipment on the camping site for children to enjoy.
The baker's on the way!
During the summer, a baker stops by every morning with fresh bread and croissants. The fishmonger and greengrocer also regularly visit, so that camping guests can buy what they need. There is a pizzeria across from the camping site that we highly recommend. More shops are available in the town of Noto Marina as well.
Most beautiful beach in the country
You can visit the nature reserve Vendicari, located in the south. These coastal wetlands, which stretch from Noto to Marzami, are dotted with lakes and dunes, and feature typical Mediterranean vegetation. You can follow the coastal path here (the route from the camping site is about twelve kilometres), which ends at the sandy beach of Calamosche. This beach was named the most beautiful beach in Italy several years ago. The beach slopes gently here, so children can swim safely.

A small campsite, with basic, but clean facilities. There is a bit of road noise on pitches on the right, opposite the toilet block, but it did not bother me too much. Toilets are standard, with toilet seats, but no loo paper ( which you hardly ever find in any of the southern European countries, so get used to it). Washbasins are also mixed gender, and have cold water only. Also only cold water at dishwashing sinks, and at clothes washing sinks (the last are outside). Showers have hot water, are mixed gender, with hook for clothes/towel just outside the cabin, which is closed with a curtain, which was ok, as there were very few people, but might be an issue for some, especially if it gets busy. The pitches are roomy, seperated by hedges, level, and most have sun and shade. Electric hook-up at each pitch, as well as a water tap.
The ground is level and flat, hardstanding (gravel). The roads are also gravel, so no dust. The whole site is well lit at night. There are barbecues available for use. I stayed here 4 days at the end of May and the site was very quiet.
What made this place very enjoyable for me was the friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The owner, who speaks a little bit of English, is always available, and goes out of his way to help you with questions/ information about the area etc.
A fruit and veg van comes in the morning, and also a baker's car with fresh bread and croissants. As it lies a bit back from the sea, there is a free shuttle service from the site to the beach by people carrier. Also provided are transport to the beautiful Baroque town of Noto, or to Avola train station to take the local train to Syracuse. Both worth doing.
I very much enjoyed my stay here, and would heartily recommend this site, as long as you don't expect luxury or entertainment, which for me were thankfully absent. This is a true CAMP SITE, and not a fancy HOLIDAY PARK.
