The rustic camping of Lago le Tamerici is located in Coltano, in the north of Tuscany. The sites are large, grassy and pleasant, with shade from the trees and covers. In many places you have a view of the neighbouring lake, where you can fish and canoe. The country environment and cosy atmosphere ensure that you can really unwind.
If you like to delve into culture, you can easily drive or take the bus to Pisa and Livorno. These two cities, a half hour's drive from the camping, are each really worth a visit.
The camping is surrounded by a nature area that has not been discovered by many tourists. A 6 km drive from the A12 motorway, largely through this nature area, will take you to this camping. The access road to the camping is partially tarred, but there is also a stretch of uneven gravel road. Not easy to reach, but this contributes to the peace that reigns there.
Water fun in the swimming pool and around the lake
On camping Lago le Tamerici you can enjoy the outdoor swimming pool (105 m2) or the lake where you can fish from the shore or with a small boat. You can also play jeu de boules or play sports on the multi-sports field. Children can also enjoy themselves on the playground equipment or go for a pony ride. Walking and cycling are wonderful in the surrounding area of the camping (take a tour around the lake). An excursion to the organic farm is also one of the options.

Stayed 3 nights and visited Pisa. Great cycle ride or you can get a bus with a little walk. Campsite is remote and idyllic - only a few planes can be heard - the views of the lake and surroundings are a wow! Very peaceful
we ate at the restaurant - its very popular with campers and locals - you need to book. Toilets and showers very good, common freezer and fridge available too! We will return.
Reasonably easy to find, using a satnav with coordinates. The roads/tracks to the site are very uneven and bumpy, to the point that we broke a couple mugs and a glass. Comically when you get to the end of the bumps and potholes you are confronted with several sleeping policemen !!
On arrival there wasn’t anyone about so we selected a pitch and later received a friendly welcome from the staff there.
This is a lakeside campsite, with a pool (ladies must wear swimming hats) and restaurant/bar overlooking the lake. The food is amazingly good and cheap too, a bottle of very nice wine. It is well used by local people and booking a table is a very good idea.
The pitches are very large, shaded and nearly all offer a view of the lake which can be walked around. Very few offer any more than 4 amps electricity and although there is a water tap on most pitches it runs at a trickle hence getting it from a mains tap near reception is the best bet.
Canoes can be used free of charge though I’m sure mine was banana shaped.
On the downside, the camp sits beneath the flightpath into Pisa. If the aircraft are landing you get little noise, but if they’re taking off it is noisy. That said it didn’t bother us after a while.
The showers and WC’s are pretty poor really, and the chemical disposal is awful. In particular the WC’s are odd in that when sitting down you literally have only 12/15 inches between you and the door which opens outwards, hence larger folk might struggle a bit.
Pisa itself, is very close by and parking there was easy.
Overall we loved this place, during our 6 week tour of Europe this was actually our favourite of the 10 we stayed at, so peaceful and there was just something about it that made you want to stay longer
The campsite is situated at the end of a couple of km of potholed and dusty track...the "lago" is small and uninteresting...
The best thing about the site is the view of the aeroplanes landing and taking off from Pisa airports.
The facilities were overrun by local people who came to the Lago for their Sunday picnic...to be fair they were cleaned once they had all gone home. Not a great experience...
This site was not too difficult to find using the Sat Nav and instructions in the book. Very convenient for Pisa. I would recommend visiting there late afternoon after the cruise ship crowds have left. It is less crowded and the light is good. You can go straight up the tower without a wait. The camp pitches were large with some shade. We did not try the restaurant although it was popular. Toilets clean. Staff helpful. Wifi near reception. We were there 15th June and the pool still was not open (it would have taken at least a week to get it open and the chemicals balanced). I was told the weather was not warm enough yet but it was 30 degrees and other pools further North had been open.
Grassy pitches by a small lake, with plenty of bird life - cattle egrets, cormorants, herons, even a hoopoe. It was a pleasant 20-minute walk round the lake, where fishing and kayaks were allowed. The outdoor swimming pool was closed.
Free WiFi worked well on pitches near reception and the price was fair with the off-season Camping Card.
The facilities were basic, with no seats on the toilets, though the water was hot at the showers. They were cleaned daily.
The 2 female staff were very friendly and spoke English. Bread and croissants could be ordered. A bar and pizzeria with a wood-fired oven supplied very tasty pizzas to eat in or take away (open daily).
Convenient for Livorno or Pisa and only 3 miles from the SS1, though the final mile or so is a very narrow and rough lane. More signposts are needed.
If you want to get away from the crowds and still be close to Pisa this campsite is great. The lady at reception was lovely and spoke good English and was very helpful. Good wifi here near the office and free. The pool is a para pool but still nice and clean and big enough and seats and umbrellas are great. The facilities were average and the showers blocked up when we were there and it smelt pretty bad. They did fix it straight away. Pitches are good and needed to be as we had the biggest storm and no trouble getting out in the morning. A great site
A lovely quiet site with reasonable facilities, the only drawback is the poor quality access roads. The staff were friendly and helpful. The swimming pool was not open when we stayed in early June but was being prepared by contractors.
A very peaceful site in a nature reserve troubled only by the occasional commercial or military flight overhead. Very helpful, english speaking staff make every effort to help with any enquiry. A very long and rough road might make you think you've taken a wrong turn but your sat nav will eventually get you to the junction to a farm which you should ignore to continue straight on for another half mile. You'll see many young ladies at the roadside on the way there but I wouldn't advise stopping to ask for directions!!
A super campsite with huge pitches, right next to a lake. The lady on reception is amazingly helpful and friendly. The road to the campsite has rather a lot of potholes so travel slowly and you will be ok. The electric was a little temperamental whilst we were there. The facilities are good and the area is very nice. We visited Pisa from here which was an easy bus ride. We also drove to Lucca which we found to be a little hidden gem of a place.
