Lone Camping, located in Haukeland (province of Hordaland), is in a lovely location on a lake. You'll enjoy the view of the surrounding mountains. The campsite is located only twenty kilometres from the centre of Bergen. Handy: the buses toward Bergen stop in front of the camping site. Bergen is a city with a lovely historic centre with the Bryggen quay as the eye-catcher. It is on the list of Unesco world heritage sites.
Popular camping site
The reception is simple and consists of only one counter. The first contact is made by the reception staff, who will handle the formalities and can answer nearly all of your questions. You drive into the camping site from the reception. Consider that this is a very busy camping site. Not strange, considering the popularity of the Norwegian fjords in general and especially the city of Bergen.
Wet and dry
The pitches are not demarcated and the guests can choose a site. There is a choice between pitches on gravel and on the grass, on the water. The pitches on the water have a lovely view, but can be a bit muddy in the wet seasons. Pitches with gravel are therefore better. Like all camping sites in Scandinavia, Lone Camping has typical Scandinavian trekker huts and holiday cottages for hire.
Lone Camping has no shop or restaurant, but just before the entrance to the camping site there are two regular supermarkets. There is also a restaurant with a large menu next to the petrol station a bit further on, while the petrol station does have a snack bar.

At first glance a nice site, but in my opinion they could do better with marking out pitches. As the site fills up late in the afternoon it becomes a bit hectic. A long lead is a must. Very nice grass on some pitches, and the site appears to be very well maintained. Decent toilet facilities, but not sure that it would be enough if the site is at full capacity. In terms of price, this is one of the most expensive campsite's we've visited in Norway - about 30% more per night. No free internet (but a quite expensive paid option) which is strange in 2016
2 families with children 10 - 13 years. Camping is awful, long queue to check-in, very long time. Dirty, cramped. Do not be surprised if near your car will put a tent strangers - there is no free space.
Early season visit, after a wet period, which resulted in a soft pitch even though it was gravel. Fresh water and waste facilities were not really operational, as the temperature was only just above freezing. Outlook from some pitches not very good, as overlooking the main road through the area. Pitches lower down had better view out onto a lake. Entrance not very obvious as it is through the Shell filling station and can be awkward to stop for checking in.
A nice site, but you want to get there early to get a site looking at the lake and not the building site! Our son really enjoyed it and made friends. A nice we play park and good playpark. The facilities were good and it was close enough to allow for a bus trip into Bergen.
